What if the city itself could teach us to live more sustainably?

Every year, Everythink challenges Fine Arts students from the University of Porto to reimagine Porto through 8 design themes. One of them: Circularity + Sustainability.

This year, one project stood out.

"Todos p'ra MESA" is an interactive installation that invites participants to reconstruct their last meal — and reflect on its environmental impact. Through body movement, visual projections, and sound, everyday food choices become a tangible experience.

It ends with practical guidance for more sustainable eating.
And a piece of fruit or vegetable.

Awareness into action. That's the point.

Because circularity isn't just about materials and infrastructure. It's about involving people in the design of the city they live in — making sustainability something you feel, not just something you hear about.

How can design turn sustainability from an abstract concept into everyday behaviour? 👇

Your team had the meeting.

Everyone aligned. Decision made. Budget approved.
Six months later the problem came back.
Same problem. Different solution. Same result.

This isn't a talent problem. It isn't a budget problem. It isn't even an ex*****on problem.

It's a definition problem.
The solution failed because the wrong question was answered. And nobody caught it not because they weren't smart enough, but because the process never stopped to ask: *are we solving the right thing?*

This is the most expensive mistake in business. And it's invisible until it's too late.

Design Thinking is the framework that closes that gap.

Not a workshop. Not a creative exercise. A structured method that forces the right question before the wrong answer gets built, used by IBM, Airbus, and IDEO not because it's fashionable, but because it consistently produces one result: less money spent on solutions nobody needed.

Five stages. One principle. Understand before you solve.

Swipe through to see how it works.

If your team is about to commit budget to a solution ask one question first:

Has anyone spoken to the people who will live with this decision?

If the answer is no you're not ready to solve yet.
That's where we come in.

Every project starts somewhere. Our projects start at our office.

And it looks like this.

From the entrance to the workshop this is where we think, debate, prototype, and build.
No staging. No filters. Just the space where Everythink happens every day.

We believe that the environment where you work shapes the quality of what you create. A space where people can move between a meeting room and a production floor in under a minute isn't accidental it's a design decision in itself.

This is our studio. Come in. 👋

In the context of Happycity, Everythink challenges each year the students from the Fine-Arts Faculty of the University of Porto (FBAUP) to explore new ways of shaping the city of Porto through eight different themes. One of those themes is City for Singles

This trend reflects a growing reality: more and more people are living alone, whether by choice or circumstance. Students, professionals, digital nomads, and older adults are increasingly embracing independent living. This creates new opportunities and challenges for cities.

As lifestyles evolve, municipalities may need to rethink how they design services, infrastructure, housing, and public spaces to support this growing demographic. The goal is to create a city that responds to the needs of people living independently, while encouraging community, well-being, and social connection when desired.

Porto can become a more inclusive and adaptable city. One that recognizes changing patterns of living and offers meaningful experiences, support networks, and opportunities for interaction.

We came up with some challenges on how to approach it:

Building Strong Community Bonds

Creating activities, workshops, and awareness campaigns that encourage social interaction and highlight the importance of human connections for mental well-being.

Connecting People Through Technology

Developing digital platforms that make it easier for residents with shared interests to meet, participate in activities, and build new social networks.

Support Networks for Everyday Life

Encouraging knowledge-sharing communities, pet-care networks, and local initiatives that help people access practical support while strengthening social bonds.

Valuing Experience and Active Participation

Creating opportunities for older adults to remain active and engaged through volunteering, mentoring programs, and innovative employment models that celebrate their skills and life experiences.

How can Porto evolve to become a city that better supports independent living in the 21st century?

Stay tuned for more!

We get asked a lot about our process.

The methodology. The frameworks. The tools we use to get from brief to solution.

And we're happy to talk about all of it.

But if you ask what actually makes the work good, It's not the process.

It's the people in the room when the process breaks down.

The one who says "I think we're solving the wrong problem" and means it.

The one who sees something in the brief that nobody else noticed.

The one who brings a perspective so different from everyone else's that the solution shifts completely.

This is what a multidisciplinary team actually looks like in practice.

Not a slide about collaboration. The real thing.

And there's nowhere we'd rather be than in the room where that happens.

Follow Everythink to see the work behind the work.

This is Tiago.
Product Visualization Specialist, and the person who makes sure products look as good on screen as they do in real life.

Tiago takes what the team builds and gives it a surface, a light, a motion. The last stretch between a model and something people actually believe in.
He works frame by frame, adjusting light until it feels natural, refining a surface until it feels touchable. It's slow work by nature, and he treats it that way, taking the time each shot needs.

What they see isn't just a render, it's a decision about how that product should be perceived.
At Everythink, that's the standard Tiago works to, every single time.

Design is People.

Get to meet a team commited to build solutions that last.

We've sat in countless project briefings where the client asked for UI.

And the real problem wasn't the interface.

It was the experience.

That's understandable. From the outside, UX and UI often look like the same thing: someone sitting behind a screen making a product look better.

They're not.

UX is about understanding and designing how people experience a product. It asks who the user is, what they're trying to achieve, where they struggle and what would make the journey feel effortless. It lives in research, user journeys, information architecture, prototyping and testing.

UI takes those decisions and brings them to life through the interface. It's the layout, typography, colour, hierarchy, interaction patterns, feedback and motion that allow people to navigate the experience with confidence.

Neither discipline replaces the other.

A beautiful interface can't rescue a confusing experience.

And a thoughtful experience deserves an interface that communicates it clearly.

The mistake isn't choosing between UX and UI.

It's treating them as the same discipline—or assuming one can succeed without the other.

At Everythink, we don't think of UX and UI as separate silos. UX usually sets the direction. UI gives that direction form. The strongest products evolve both together through continuous iteration, learning and refinement.

So before your next design brief, ask one simple question:

**Are we solving an experience problem, an interface problem, or both?**

Because the answer shapes everything that comes next.

The World Health Organization estimates that urban environments directly influence over 60% of the factors that determine population health.

Not genetics. Not individual choices.

The environment people move through every day.
The distance between home and green space.
The quality of air on the route to school.
The presence, or absence, of places where people naturally slow down, sit, and connect.

Design has always shaped health.
The difference today is that we know enough to do it intentionally.
We know that cities with more walkable streets have lower rates of cardiovascular disease.

That access to natural light in workplaces reduces burnout and absenteeism.
That mixed-use neighborhoods , where people live, work, and socialize within walking distance, produce measurably lower levels of loneliness and anxiety.

These aren't hypotheses.
They're outcomes.

They are a consequence of design decisions made upstream, long before anyone thought to measure their effect on well-being.
The challenge isn't a lack of knowledge.

It's a lack of integration, between urban planners, health professionals, architects, service designers, and the communities who actually live in the spaces being designed.

That integration is where the work happens.
And where the biggest opportunities still exist.
What would your city look like if health had been the primary design brief from the start? 👇

In the context of Happycity, Everythink challenges each year the students from Fine-Arts of the University of Porto (FBAUP) to explore new ways of shaping the city of Porto through eight different themes. One of those themes is Silence.

This trend highlights a basic human need that is often overlooked: the need for calm, quiet moments in our increasingly fast-paced and information-rich lives. As cities become busier and noisier, creating opportunities for silence and reflection becomes essential for well-being, happiness, and a stronger sense of community.

Silence is not simply the absence of noise. It’s about creating places that allow people to slow down, recharge, and reconnect with themselves and their surroundings. By integrating moments of calm into the urban landscape, Porto can become a city that supports both mental health and civic engagement.

We came up with some challenges on how to approach it:

Urban Quiet Refuges | Creating small gardens, rooftop parks, and acoustic installations that offer peaceful escapes from the city's everyday noise.

Private Public Spaces| Designing urban installations, and sheltered environments that provide moments of silence, concentration, and privacy within collective spaces.

Noise Awareness Technology | Developing visual communication systems and digital tools that help citizens understand and monitor noise levels across the city.

A Culture of Silence & Well-being | Promoting educational and public health campaigns that raise awareness about the importance of silence for quality of life and happiness.

Curious to see how these ideas can reshape the future of Porto?

Stay tuned for more!
