Would You Trust This 45° Wood Joint in Real Furniture? 🤔
Last Part
A clean 45° miter joint can look beautiful, but the real challenge is making it strong enough for practical woodworking.
For this project, I used Yellow Pine and reinforced the joint with Teakwood Dowels.
First, I marked and cut the wood at 45°. After applying glue, I carefully joined the two pieces and allowed the joint to dry properly.
Once the glue had cured, I used a woodworking terminology hai to make matching holes through the joint. The important part here is keeping the holes aligned and consistent so the dowels fit correctly.
I then made the Teakwood Dowels and inserted them into the holes with glue. After the glue dried, I cut the excess dowel material, brought it flush with the surface using a grinder, and continued with sanding.
Finally, I worked through the sanding process to clean everything up and finished the wood with beeswax.
The result is a clean-looking 45° miter joint with a hidden reinforcement detail.
But now I want your opinion:
Would you trust this joint for real furniture, or is it mainly a beautiful woodworking technique? 🤔
And if you’re a woodworker, would you reinforce this joint differently?
