Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 and the Global Variant of Redmi Note 9 Pro went Official, the Legend Continues

The standard Redmi Note 9 addition to Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 9 Series has been launched via a virtual event. The global variant of the recently-launched Redmi Note 9 Pro Max, dubbed Redmi Note 9 Pro (its namesake was introduced last month in India, mind you), also joined the international lineup. The original Redmi Note 9 Pro previously went official as Redmi Note 9S (global version). Puzzling? Definitely. Not only did Xiaomi introduce the series backwards, but by rehashing the names, it added further confusion to the mix.

Redmi Note 9
Let’s talk about the brand-new base edition first. The Redmi Note 9 shares its design language with the ‘Pro’ and ‘S’ duo. It features a punch-hole display that stretches 6.53 inches across. The panel is IPS LCD which produces an FHD+ resolution and embeds a 13MP selfie shooter in its cutout.

Go around the back to find two pill-shaped housings stacked on top of each other, and surrounded by a lengthened camera island. Each pill-style secondary housing contains two cameras, for a total of four. Right below the cameras, a capacitive fingerprint reader is also part of the main camera housing. The rear shell comes in Forest Green, Midnight Grey, and Polar White shades.

The camera combination features a 48MP primary shooter, an 8MP ultra-wide lens, and a pair of 2MP depth and macro shooters. The optics hardware is augmented with AI, but the main lens has an unremarkable f/2.0 aperture.

Running things behind the scenes is a MediaTek Helio G85 processor paired with 4GB + 128GB and 3GB + 64GB configurations. The setup is hooked up to a massive 5,020 mAh battery with support for 18W fast charging.

The model starts at $199 (~31,000 PKR) and is expected to go on sale later this month.

Redmi Note 9 Pro
As touched on above, the global Redmi Note 9 Pro is the same phone as the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max. And if you’re familiar with the latter, you might already know that it has a 6.67-inch DotDisplay, with the in-display front camera resting in the center.

Although, it’s still an IPS panel so an optical fingerprint reader can’t go underneath it. The capacitive fingerprint reader lives on the phone’s power button as a side-mounted thumbprint reader. The main camera here has a 64MP sensor behind it, and its back panel comes in Topical Green, Glacier Green, and Interstellar Grey hues.

Its Snapdragon 720G processor works with 6GB of RAM and 64GB/128GB of native storage. A 5,020 mAh battery with 30W fast charging support powers the device.

The sub-flagship starts from $269 (~43,000 PKR without taxes), but there’s no word of the duo reaching Pakistan yet.

iPhone 12, 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max, and iPhone SE Plus: Pricing Details and Specifications Revealed

Speculation has it that Apple has finalized the design for the upcoming iPhone 12 series, and earlier leaks have given us the preview of the next generation of Apple’s iPhone. And the tech analyst Jon Prosser has now shared the iPhone prices and other details regarding the four upcoming iPhone 12 editions.

The most pocket-friendly edition iPhone SE Plus codenamed ‘D52G’, has a 5G A14 platform inside. It features a 5.4-inch OLED panel with a shrunken wedge-notch. The build is aluminum and mounts a dual-camera on the back. It starts at $649 (100,000 PKR), as per the tweet from the leaker.

Next up, we have the sequel to the standard iPhone 11, the iPhone 12. Codenamed ‘D53G’, the iPhone 12, seems to be essentially an inflated version of the iPhone SE Plus. Its OLED panel stretches 6.1 inches and produces an FHD+ resolution. There’s 5G connectivity across the board, and it starts at $749 (119,000 PKR).

The iPhone 12 Pro, has the same screen size, but the leak doesn’t detail if the display has a higher-than-average refresh rate. As opposed to the aluminum frame and panel, the ‘Pro’ edition is made of stainless steel.

It retains the wedge notch but has a triple camera on the back, combined with a LiDAR sensor. Same as the entire lineup, a Bionic A14 chip powers it. It’s reported to retail for $999 (159,000 PKR).

The highest-end edition is iPhone 12 Pro Max is built around a big 6.7-inch OLED panel, tipped to produce an extreme 120Hz refresh rate. The camera set up is carried over from iPhone 12 Pro: that is, a triple-lens + LiDAR. The 12 Pro Max has an iPhone price tag of $1,099 (175,000 PKR). Note that unlike most OEMs, Apple hasn’t driven up the prices of its 2020 flagships.

The source remarks that the launch might be delayed owing to the COVID-19 pandemic. Apple might unveil the series around either October or November.

The Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Lite Leaks Hours ahead of Launch; Shares Design, Specifications, Pricing, and More

Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Lite
Rs. Coming Soon
Expected Rs. 64,999

The ‘Lite’ edition of the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 series is scheduled for launch later today, but ahead of the event, a vendor based in Russia has prematurely published the listing for the phone, detailing its specifications and price. Here’s the scoop.

The Mi Note 10 Lite starts at a Xiaomi Price tag of RUB 24,500 (~54,000 PKR) which puts the model squarely into the upper-mid-range bracket. Before we get into the design, you’re looking at a rather hefty build – which is 9.67mm thick and weighs 208g. The back panel is chamfered, which should keep the ergonomics comfortable.

The new Note 10 lite houses an uncharacteristically oversized camera bump, which leads us to the conclusion that Xiaomi wasn’t going for a ‘compact’ design language

The 6.47-inch AMOLED front panel curves around the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Lite bezels, featuring a drop-notch that extends into it. The display can produce an FHD+ resolution, and the camera inside the notch has a 32MP front-facing sensor behind it. There’s no capacitive fingerprint reader to be seen, which points to an on-screen alternative of the same.

As opposed to the trail-blazing 108MP main lens that its sibling model debuted with, the ‘Lite’ edition uses a 64MP primary shooter. Xiaomi has lopped off the telephoto lens and downgraded the ultra-wide-angle camera to an 8MP sensor. The ensemble is rounded off by a 5MP macro lens and a 2MP depth-assist sensor.

The Snapdragon 730G processor is borrowed from the standard variants, and combined with up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of native storage (which can’t be expanded, unfortunately). Xiaomi has hooked up this internals to a robust 5,260 mAh battery that supports 30W fast charging. The hardware, of course, runs on the latest Android-10-powered MIUI 11.

The build has a glossy finish that comes in black, purple, and white shades. Note that the Mi Note 10 Lite isn’t a major step-down in terms of either performance or design, but it manages to slash the Xiaomi prices to just €309 (54,000 PKR without taxes) since the Mi Note 10 is retailing for almost the double at €550.

Honor 9C, 9A, and Honor 9S Officially Revealed; Honor's Barrage of New Releases Continues

Honor 9S
Rs. Coming Soon
Expected Rs. 18,999

Honor has been flooding the market with new releases and keeping that train going; the Chinese sub-brand has now introduced the Honor 9 series in Russia. The budget-friendly trio includes Honor 9C, Honor 9A, and Honor 9S. We'll explore each edition in the paragraphs that follow.

Honor 9C
Let's kick things off with the punch-hole-toting 9C. its 6.39-inch HD+ display has a cutout in the top-left corner that houses an 8MP front-facing camera. The bezels surrounding this panel are slim, as is the chin. Go around the back, and you'll find a polished rear shell with soft round corners.

A triple-camera is installed in a corner featuring a 48MP module, an 8MP wide-angle shooter, and a 2MP depth-assist sensor. You can pick from blue and black gradient colors. A capacitive fingerprint reader rests in the middle.

Inside the device, a Kirin 710A chip handles the processing. Honor has opted for 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage to round off the chipset. Which, in turn, is powered by a 4,000 mAh battery. The hardware runs on Honor's Magic UI 3.1 (based on the latest Android 10).

It's available for pre-order in Russia, starting at RUB 12,990 or about 28,500 PKR without taxes, and will go on sale from May 4. After that, you may expect it to land soon in other countries, hopefully, Pakistan as well.

Honor 9A
Honor 9A sports a rather familiar look, since it borrows its design language from the still-recent Honor Play 9A. Its display stretches 6.3 inches across and incorporates a drop-notch. Its dual-camera lives in a rectangular housing, flanked by a similar rear-mounted fingerprint reader.

The back panel has a glistening pattern that comes in black, blue, and sea-green shades. A MediaTek Helio P22 chip powers this model, coupled with 3GB of RAM and 64GB of ROM. The camera setup has a 13MP + 5MP combination. The selfie camera works with an 8MP lens.

The battery has a massive 5,000 mAh capacity, and it's retailing for RUB 10,990 (~24,000 PKR).

Honor 9S
Honor 9S is the most pocket-friendly edition of this lineup. It's an old bezel-heavy design, and the display is sandwiched between two blocky bezels. The screen is HD+ and measures 5.45 inches.

The polycarbonate back has an odd-looking camera island: a squircle housing for the phone's single 8MP camera and LED flash. The selfie camera uses a 5MP module. There’s no support for fingerprint security.

The chipset is carried over from Honor 9A, and coupled with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage – making it, perhaps, the most entry-level Honor build for 2020. It's available for RUB 6,990 (~15,000 PKR) in black, red, and blue shades. There's no word on the trio's release in Pakistan yet.

Samsung Galaxy A51 5G Arrives on May 7, Reveals an Official Press Release

Samsung confirmed in a press release earlier this month, the pricing details Galaxy A51 5G (among other next-gen A-series models), but it didn't share a release schedule then. In another press release yesterday, the company announced that the Samsung Galaxy A51 5G variant would debut in the Korean market first on May 7, 2020.

Note that the Samsung Galaxy A51 5G is a sequel to last year's Samsung Galaxy A51, and it's also the first A-series phone to support 5G connectivity. The press release, in addition to giving us a preview of the phone in the press renders, also lists the specifications for the upcoming 5G mid-ranger.

Samsung's new model design is familiar since it's carried over wholly from the Galaxy A51. You get an Infinity-O display that curves around the edges ever-so-slightly and is surrounded by minimal bezels. The rear-facing panel has a 'hatching' pattern available in Prism Crush White, Prism Crush Black, and Prism Crush Pink colors. In its corner, sits a rectangular camera bump with a quad-camera inside.

The Super AMOLED front panel stretches 6.5 inches across, produces an FHD+ resolution, and houses an on-screen fingerprint scanner. The L-shaped camera layout has a 48MP main sensor, combined with a 123-degree 12MP wide-angle lens, and a pair of 5MP depth-assist and macro shooters. For capturing selfies, Samsung's latest model A51 5G features a 32MP front camera inside the punch-hole.

As opposed to the Exynos 9611 processor, the Samsung Galaxy A51 5G is powered by Exynos 980 5G. It's hooked up to a 4,500 mAh battery with support for 15W fast charging – a significant spec bump over the 4,000 mAh battery on the standard A51. Samsung opted for up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage (expandable with a microSD card). The performance can be maximized with Samsung's Game Booster.
