MARINDUQUE NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL To date, MNHS Faculty/Instructional Staff consists of 83 classroom teachers.

Marinduque National High School is the former Marinduque High School which was officially recognized as a secondary school – the first in the province – in 1914, a year after its first class of 20 students was organized. Its nationalization was passed through Parliamentary Bill No. 1328 and was signed into law in November 13, 1982 as Batas Pambansa Bilang 267; the school adopted its new name – MAR

INDUQUE NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL (MNHS) in August 1984 when the first cash disbursement BCDC was released by the national government. MNHS located at Barangay Isok in the Municipality of Boac – the capital of the province. The school stands on the same site acquired by Marinduque High School in 1922. The site covers 1,888 square meter land area bounded on the south by the Boac North Central School (Primary); on the west by Magsaysay Street, on the north by Pamintuan Street, and on the east by Roque Street fronting the present DepEd Division Office. Entrance to the MNHS campus is either through the West Gate or the East Gate, where both entrances are connected by a stretch of cement pathway decked on each side with pine trees, narra trees, and boxed flowering plants. Buildings occupy the four side areas of the campus, creating a spacious quadrangle – like center ground. From a class of 23 students in 1914, MNHS enrolment has increased by leaps and abound each school year marking a steadfast rise in student population. The biggest total enrolment recorded was in School Year 2005 – 2006 which was 3,422. A breakdown of this number by year level results to the following figures: First Year – 1,030, Second Year – 747 , Third Year -857, Fourth Year – 788. The student populace is distributed to 19 sections in first year; 15 sections in second year, 15 sections in third year and 14 sections in fourth year, for a total of 63 sections. Enrolment increase demands additional teachers, a major concern which the school tries to address over the past years. These 83 teachers are filling in items of 6 Master Teachers, 11 Teachers III, 14 Teachers II, and 52 Teachers I. In addition, the school has 7 Head Teachers, 4 Guidance Counselors, 21 Librarians, 1 School Nurse and 16 non Teaching Personnel, all under the Principal and the Administrative Officer. Massive improvement in the school facilities has effected a dramatic change in the campus scenery over the past few years. Of the school buildings existing in the early 80’s only the Main Building (Gabaldon) remains and still houses four classrooms and the school library which has undergone series of repairs and repainting and the other improvements. The most – recent construction undertake was the all-concrete two-storey Home Economics Buildings that replaced the old HE Building. Its ground floor serves as the school’s Main Canteen while the second floor functions as the HE Laboratory Room. Other buildings that replaced old infrastructure are the JICA Building with 11 classrooms, Two-Storey Building (East) with 20 classrooms, the Two-Storey Building(West) with 24 classrooms (where both buildings have Comfort Room for each room), the Bagong Lipunan Building with 6 classrooms. Completing the 64 instructional rooms currently functional is the Computer Room. The MNHS Covered Court is another million-peso worth infrastructure project funded by the local Department of Public Works and Highways CDF. Other non-instructional structures existing in the campus are the School Canteen Annex and Cooperative Retail Stores. For six years, MNHS has been implementing a specialized science curriculum for special science class. The implementation began in SY 1996 – 1997 when two First Year Science Classes were organized – each class composed of 50 students who qualified for inclusion after taking a series of exams and interviews. The first batch with this specialized curriculum graduated in April 2001 with only 28 members from the original 100 students. At present the school has 5 science classes – two First Year and one each in the other year levels. Through the years, MNHS has made significant accomplishment worthy of its distinction as the Division Leader School. Special cabinets in the school library and in the principal’s office contain numerous trophies and citations documenting winning stints and outstanding participation in varied contest – academic or non-academic of division, regional and national Level. School clubs and other organizations with legitimate and defined objectives are reactivated every school year with new sets of officers as implementers of projects and productive activities. The MNHS Choir, the Rondalla group, the Drum and Lyre Corps always become important part of programs and celebrations both in and outside the school.
