The tatami bed is a Japanese-style sleeping system featuring firm tatami mats used as a mattress foundation. These mats are either placed directly on the floor or on a low platform frame to provide a firm, breathable surface for a thin mattress to promote better posture and moisture control.

Some modern adaptation of the tatami beds include underneath storage drawers, making them functional for smaller living spaces, as shown in here.
