WEAK LEADERS DEMAND AGREEMENT. GREAT LEADERS DEMAND THE TRUTH.
"Ang galing ng team ko. Lahat sila agree sa decisions ko. Walang kumokontra."
Sounds like a perfect team, right?
As a leader, masarap sa feeling kapag lahat ng tao mo ay sumasang-ayon sa'yo. Walang arguments, walang resistance, at lahat ng ideas mo, approved agad.
You feel respected. You feel in control. You feel like you're always the smartest person in the room.
But here's the uncomfortable truth: Kapag lahat ng tao mo laging YES sa'yo, that's not always loyalty. Sometimes, that's a WARNING SIGN.
Because a team that's afraid to disagree is a team that will allow you to make mistakes—even when they already see them coming.
And in business, one bad decision that nobody dared to question can cost you millions.
5 THINGS EVERY LEADER MUST REMEMBER:
1. ECHO CHAMBERS KILL INNOVATION.
Sometimes, your people see problems and opportunities that you don't. Pero kung takot silang magsalita, those valuable ideas will never reach your table.
A great leader doesn't need constant agreement. A great leader needs different perspectives.
2. TRUE LOYALTY MEANS HAVING THE COURAGE TO DISAGREE.
Sometimes, the employee who says, "Sir, I think there's a better way," is the one who genuinely cares about your business.
Mas madaling sumang-ayon kaysa magsabi ng uncomfortable truth.
Kaya don't confuse obedience with loyalty.
Real loyalty is not about telling the boss what he wants to hear. It's about telling him what he needs to know.
3. CREATE A CULTURE OF HEALTHY DEBATE.
As a leader, don't just ask your team, "Okay ba tayo dito?"
Because most of the time, ang sagot nila, "Okay, Sir."
Instead, ask better questions:
- "What am I missing?"
Make your team comfortable enough to challenge ideas without feeling that they're challenging your authority.
Strong leaders don't silence opinions. They encourage conversations that lead to better decisions.
4. DON'T PUNISH HONESTY. REWARD IT.
You cannot ask your people to be honest kung every time na may disagreement, nagagalit ka, nagiging defensive, or pinapahiya mo sila.
Think about it.
Do you really think magsasalita pa siya next time?
Probably not.
And that's how leaders unknowingly create a team of YES MEN.
You don't have to agree with every opinion. But you must respect the courage it takes to speak up.
If you want honest employees, become a leader who can handle the truth—even when it hurts your ego.
5. LEAD WITH CONFIDENCE, NOT WITH EGO.
There's a big difference between being a confident leader and being an ego-driven boss.
A confident leader can say, "That's a good point. Hindi ko naisip 'yan."
An ego-driven boss will say, "Ako ang boss. Sundin mo na lang."
Remember, leadership is not a competition kung sino ang pinakamatalino sa room.
Your job is not to prove that you're always right.
Your job is to bring out the best thinking from your team, make informed decisions, and take responsibility for the results.
At the end of the day, ikaw pa rin ang leader. Ikaw pa rin ang magde-decide. And ikaw pa rin ang accountable.
But the best decisions are often made by leaders who are willing to listen before they lead.
FINAL THOUGHT:
You need people who can think independently, speak honestly, challenge respectfully, and still work together toward one common goal.
Because a room full of YES MEN may protect your ego, but it will never protect your business.**
Don't build a team that is afraid to question you.
Build a team that is brave enough to correct you, smart enough to challenge you, and loyal enough to stand with you.
Remember:
A WEAK LEADER DEMANDS AGREEMENT.
A STRONG LEADER EARNS RESPECT.
A GREAT LEADER WELCOMES THE TRUTH.
