March 12 in Brgy. Carangalaan, Dagupan City, a happy celebration in a samgyupsalan ended in a scary and sad event. While a group of students happily sang “Happy Birthday,” they little did they know a disaster was imminent. The butane stove suddenly exploded, and the fire spread throughout the dining area.
From laughter, it was replaced by fear. The lives of 13 to 15 people were affected, some of whom were injured and are undergoing treatment. This tragedy, which has quickly gone viral, is a reminder of how important safety is in the places we go—especially in restaurants.
What do we learn from this?
1️⃣ Safety first – for the owner and the guests, make sure equipment is properly equipped and inspections are regular.
2️⃣ Be prepared for the unexpected – accidents are unpredictable, so we must be alert.
3️⃣ Empathy and responsibility – businesses have a responsibility for their customers’ safety, and we should support each other in times of crisis.
4️⃣ Proactive action – better staff training, regular equipment checks, and surrounding awareness are key to preventing disasters.
Despite the scary situation, this is an opportunity for us to reflect and work to improve safety around us. To owners, employees, and guests—the message is clear: Put safety first, so every celebration and meal is fun and fear-free.
