Our work focuses on urban architecture and (interior) transformations, engaging with every layer of the existing context. Superimpose employs a bold and creative Dutch design approach hand-in-hand with a tactile and sensible Asian design philosophy. We don’t advocate a particular design style but rather focus on applying problem-solving tactics to find functional, innovative, crisp, balanced, well
-detailed and striking design solutions. Superimpose has been receiving international recognition by being shortlisted as Dezeen Emerging Architect of the year 2018 and by AD100 YOUNG as one of the top 100 of young architecture practices in China in 2020. Superimpose’s projects have been winning esteemed project awards including: multiple awards at the Design For Asia awards (DFA) for Micr-O and the Re-veil; German Iconic awards for Micr-O, the Re-veil and CO2; The American Architecture Prize for Micr-O, DFA for Micr-O; and Architizer Awards for CO2 and the Re-veil. Our name, Superimpose, reflects our design philosophy and office mentality. We strongly believe in designing with contextual awareness and carefully overlay contextual components with our designs, with the responsibility to improve, protect, recycle and sustain both our natural and built environments. We support sustainable initiatives that create a better and livable community to our future generation, therefore we prioritize projects that focus on re-usability and revitalization. Regardless of the projects’ size, Superimpose relates design to people, in terms of scale, usability and sustainability. We take pride in thinking along with our clients and leading to an improved redefinition of the design brief. Our team is based on diversity rather than similarity. Superimpose advocates a team of diversity and inclusion and we recruit talents from all over the world. We strongly believe the key to our practice growth and success is encouraging every individual member continuously to contribute with ideas, to inspire and challenge each other. We believe design is not a sole creation and value all forms of collaboration. Besides our successful collaborations with numerous local design institutes and architecture related disciplines, we collaborate with sustainability experts, cultural experts, movie makers, projection artists, light artists, wood craftsman, furniture makers and many others. Superimpose also continuously contributes to academic and public design education. We have participated in various lectures, key-note talks and design reviews at the AA Visiting School, Tsinghua University, Oxfords Brookes university, Dutch Embassy, Beijing Design Week, Hong Kong Green Architecture Association, the Hong Kong Chinese University, etc. Regular in-house idea-farms are initiated to stimulate and exchange of perspectives and knowledge within the Superimpose team.
