Why Italy, Though?
You might think Italy is just about pizza and beautiful sights, but it's also a secret spot for super affordable, high-quality education. For students from countries like Nigeria, the fees are surprisingly low.
Super Low School Fees: Prestigious public universities like the University of Bologna, Palermo, and Siena charge as little as €300 - €500 per year. Sometimes, the tuition is even free!
Your Degree Means Something: You're getting a qualification that the whole world respects, from some of the oldest and best schools out there.
Let's Break Down Your ₦4 Million (€2,400)
Here’s a real-life example of what you’ll spend:
School Fees: €150 - €500
Visa, Insurance, etc: €250
Getting Your Documents Sorted: €100
One-Way Flight: €350 - €750
First Rent & Deposit: €600
Settling in (SIM, Food, Transport): €200

Your Step-by-Step Game Plan
Step 1: Get Ready & Apply (Start This Now!)
Find Your Course: Go to universitaly.it (the official website). Look for courses taught in English that you're interested in.
Gather Your Dcouments: Your WAEC certificate, transcripts, passport, birth certificate, and a motivation letter. You need to get them stamped and approved at the Italian Embassy in Abuja.
Step 2: Get Money for Living & Your Visa (After You Get In)
3. Go After Scholarships! Once a school accepts you, immediately apply for scholarships like LazioDisco, EDISU Piemonte, or DSU Toscana. These aren't just small discounts. They can give you a free place to live, meal tickets, and even spending money every month.
4. Get Your Student Visa: With your admission letter, apply for your visa through VFS Global in Nigeria. It costs about ₦80,000 - ₦100,000. You'll need to show them you have enough money to live, your travel insurance, and where you'll be staying.
Step 3: Move and Get Settled
5. Book Your Flight: Use sites like Skyscanner or Google Flights. If you can be flexible with your dates, you can find much cheaper tickets.
6. Apply for a Residence Permit (Permesso di Soggiorno) immediately you arrive Italy.
7. Get a phone number, a student bus/train pass, and a bank account.
8. Find groups and join to begin to build a network in your new country.
While this is a sample budget to get you to Italy and settle, it might be less or more than this. Have additional money to cover unforeseen circumstances.
