A LONG POST BUT WORTH READING
Hey Friends🤗
With the increasing economic and social issues around us,lots of people are loosing it so let's talk about Resilience!
Resilience can simply be referred to as the capacity to recover from difficult life events.
It’s one's ability to withstand adversity and bounce back and grow despite life’s downturns
While resilient people easily tap into their strengths and support systems to overcome challenges and work through problems, those lacking resilience get easily overwhelmed and may turn to unhealthy coping mechanisms.
On daily basis, people face lots of adversities eg. post COVID that has been known for economic crisis leading to loss of jobs, business down turn There are also personal crisis such as illness, loss of a loved one, abuse, bullying, and financial instability. Then the shared reality of tragic events in the news, such as terrorist attacks, mass shooting.
Developing resilience skills is therefore inevitable.Resilience isn’t a fixed trait,It can be nurtured!
Flexibility, adaptability, and perseverance can help people tap into their resilience by changing certain thoughts and behaviors.
Developing resilience is both complex and personal. It involves a combination of inner strengths and outer resources, and there isn’t a universal formula for becoming more resilient because people have different personalities.
Researching on this,I have come to understand that it is imperative to manage an individual’s immediate environment and promote protective factors while addressing demands and stressors that the individual faces. In other words, resilience isn’t something people tap into only during overwhelming moments of adversity. It builds as people encounter all kinds of stressors on a daily basis, and protective factors can be nurtured.
These protective factors though not limited to these include:
Social support : This can include immediate or extended family, community, friends, and organizations. Individuals should make deliberate effort to build good relationships and interact. Family reunions and membership to social organizations are encouraged and In the event you have issues,do not distance yourself from people.
Realistic Planning: The ability to make and carry out realistic plans helps individuals play to their strengths and focus on achievable goals.
Self-Esteem : positive sense of self confidence in one’s strengths can reduce feelings of helplessness when confronted with adversity.
Coping Skills Coping and problem-solving skills help empower a person who has to work through adversity and overcome hardship. Learn more about this
Communication Skills Being able to communicate clearly and effectively helps people seek support, mobilize resources, and take action.
Emotional Control: The capacity to manage potentially overwhelming emotions (or seek assistance to work through them) helps people maintain focus when overcoming a challenge.
Contribution: How much do you contribute to people's lives or your local community? Please do not misconstrue this, support can come in the form of advice, care not always financial.Having a sense of purpose is a powerful motivator.Contributing to one’s community also reinforces positive reciprocal relationships.
KEY TAKE AWAY : Start building these protective factors now,do not allow the adversities to balloon before you start.
