Exhibiting "Equilibrium" at Ventura Future, BASE Milano during Fuorisalone, Milan Design Week.

"Equilibrium"
There is a captivating and subtle beauty in the extension of an elongated fine line that withstands gravity. This project is an experimental attempt to establish a line as an individual product. Created irregularly formed random lines using connected units and balanced out the tensile strength achieved by Arakawa Grips and wires with the compressive strength of units in a perpendicular direction. Through this process, a delicate appearance of enduring gravity emerges.

Traditionally, Japanese aesthetics has always revolved around lines, as can be displayed in the approach of the Japanese art of flower arrangement “Kado” which has set them apart from the western style sensibilities. There are intriguing differences when you image search on google. It might be a reason of culture to start making frames by using wood pillars when a house is constracted in Japan. In contrast, Europe starts making walls as serface by using bricks as dot.

In this exhibition, Milan 2019, We made installation with over 2,500 pices of wood pillar and also explained a possibility of this system by new furniture prodcuts. “Equilibrium” is configured with just thin light lines and makes from one piece of furniture to a huge space.

"Moment of Perception" has just selected as Jury Selections at the Japan Media Arts Festival.

文化庁メディア芸術祭のアート部門において、昨年制作した「Moment of Perception - 認知の瞬間」が審査委員会推薦作品に選出されました。

文化庁メディア芸術祭は、アート、エンターテインメント、アニメーション、マンガの4部門において優れた作品を顕彰するとともに、受賞作品の鑑賞機会を提供するメディア芸術の総合フェスティバルです。

A new experimental project "Equilibrium" just started to be shown at TIERS GALLERY by Arakawagrip in Omotesando, Tokyo.

There is a captivating and subtle beauty in the extension of an elongated fine line that withstands gravity. Traditionally, Japanese aesthetics has always revolved around lines, as can be displayed in the approach of Japanese style flower arrangement which has set them apart from the western style sensibilities. This project is an experimental attempt to establish a line as an individual product.

It’s just announced that the creative unit “anima” won “Special Jury Prize” at ALife Art Award 2018 by the art work “Moment of Perception” being showed in the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation (Miraikan). Jun is one of the member of anima and set up this unit at Feb 2018. The work is the first output for anima.

We are showing a new experimental project called "Appendix" at Gallery TIERS by arakawagrip. It is made by traditional wood turning process and another later additional processing. The wood turning process is a kind of minus one compared with 3D printing. On the other hand, this product has an extra "plus" shape. We try to reveal a value more than a cost to produce the plus shape on the minus process.

Jun was invited as one of eight finalists, under 40 years old designers in the world, of Hublot Design Prize to present his works to an impressive lineup of juries in Serpentine, London. It was a great journey for us to face his own thought and style of design for several monthes. Nice to have a same moment with the other finalists and unforgettable words in talks with all juries one by one after the judge. Thank you, Hublot and staffs for all treats, it was amazingly gorgeous and heartwarming.
