Poorvam Ideas is a journal of ideas committed to the life of the mind in South Asia and beyond. We publish essays, translations, interviews, reflections, fiction, and critical writing that takes its subject matter seriously — work that is rigorous without being inaccessible, and ambitious without being obscure.
We are now inviting submissions across all our sections:
— Essays: long-form intellectual writing across philosophy, history, aesthetics, political economy, postcolonial thought, and the sciences
— Perspectives: analytical writing on democracy, governance, environment, geopolitics, the Global South, and questions of pluralism
— Gravitas: declared positions from cultural thought leaders — on policy, civilisational questions, law, and aesthetic life
— Reviews: critical engagement with books, ideas, art, and scholarship
— Translations: classical and contemporary work from Sanskrit, Pali, regional languages, Urdu, Persian, and vernacular traditions
— Interviews: conversations with scholars, philosophers, writers, historians, and cultural figures
— Dialogues: roundtables, debates, written exchanges, and authors in conversation
— Excerpts: previews of essays, research, memoirs, and forthcoming works from our journal
— Fiction: short fiction, myth and retelling, translated fiction
We do not ask that your work fit a theme or follow a brief. We ask only that it be written with care, that it say something worth saying, and that it be addressed to a reader who thinks.
If you have a piece in progress, a translation you have been sitting on, a conversation worth having, or a position you have been waiting for the right place to declare — we would be glad to hear from you.
