SMSU GENERAL ELECTION 2024

It is hereby informed that the SMSU General (Executive Body) Election for the 2024-2025 session will be conducted on 20th August 2024 at 11:00 am. Interested registered members may kindly contact the union at 9612149414(WhatsApp) or mail at: [email protected] with your details.
Nomination files can be accepted on or before 5:00 p.m. on 19th August 2024. Scrutiny of the candidates will be done from 5:00 p.m. to 7.00 p.m. on 19th August 2024.
Only registered members can apply for the post of the EB member. Members undergoing postgraduate courses with at least one year of experience as a member of EB of SMSU may apply for the President/Vice President Post. Undergraduate Student members, with at least one year of experience as EB members of SMSU may apply for the Finance Secretary and the General Secretary. One student can apply for only one post. MEGHALAYA Class 10 board exams to be held in December & 2 SSLC board exams from 2025

SHILLONG, Aug 9: The Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBoSE) will hold two Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examinations from the 2024-2025 academic session.
The Cabinet on Friday approved the amendment to the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBoSE) Regulation for the Secondary School Leaving Certificate Examination, 2011 to allow the MBoSE to hold two board exams for the SSLC students.
After a meeting of the Cabinet, Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma told reporters that following the Cabinet’s approval, the MBoSE will hold two SSLC board exams from the next year.
According to him, the main board exam will be held in February-March 2025 while the supplementary board exam will be held in May 2025.
The minister said students failing in two or three subjects in the main board exam will be allowed to reappear for the supplementary board exam to be held within a span of two months.
He added that from the 2025-2026 academic session, the main board exam will be held in December while the supplementary board exam will be held in February-March 2026.
“This decision was taken in the overall interest of the students. What is happening is that board examinations would be conducted after a gap of one year. We will conduct the supplementary board examination within the academic session to help students save their academic year,” the minister said.
According to him, the holding of two board exams a year is in line with the National Education Policy. He said the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is doing the same thing.
He further said that from the 2026-2027 academic session, there will be no more optional subject as well as the best of five.
“The students will have to pass all the six subjects in the board examination,” he said.
OTHER CABINET DECISIONS
The Cabinet approved the Farmers Empowerment Commission Amendment Bill, 2024. The minister said the amendment seeks to increase the chairman’s age from 65 to 70 years.
The Cabinet also approved the Benami Transaction Prohibition Rules, 2024 to allow complaints to be received by the deputy commissioners of respective districts.
Sangma said the Meghalaya Public School Service Rules, 2024 has been approved for all the three public schools – Shillong, Tura and Jowai.
“(All these years) there were no service rules for the teachers and principals working in the three public schools in Shillong, Tura and Jowai,” he added.
The Cabinet also approved the Meghalaya Subordinate Water Resources Engineering Service Rules, 2024.

"A 63-year-old ex-military man was arrested by the police on Saturday at Happy Valley here for possessing six soap boxes of he**in weighing 69.41 grams.
The accused has been identified as Lhunkhojang Kuki, an Assam Regiment personnel, who retired in 2001.
Along with he**in, a mobile phone, a scooty with the registration number MN01Y8820, Rs 21,600 in cash and a driver’s licence were seized.
It is to be noted that Happy Valley and Madanrting areas are one of the hot beds of illegal drug peddling. Many arrests have also been made in the past in these areas".
