What does the app do?
Sos Alert is a personal emergency alert app that helps users quickly send an SOS message to a trusted contact.
When the user feels unsafe, is in danger, or needs help, they can activate an emergency alert by pressing the Volume Down button 4 times.
After activation, the app can send an SOS message with the user’s current location to a trusted contact.
The app can also send location updates by email every 15 minutes, 30 minutes, or according to the interval selected by the user.
Important: Sos Alert does not replace the police, ambulance, fire department, or any official emergency service. In a life-threatening situation, always contact your local emergency services immediately.
How to set up the app for the first time
Step 1 — Open the app
After installing the app, open Sos Alert.
The first screens explain how the app works and why it needs certain permissions.
Step 2 — Read and accept the Terms and Privacy Policy
Read the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.
The app uses permissions only for emergency-related features, such as detecting the SOS trigger and sending your location to the trusted contact you choose.
Tap:
I Agree / Continue
Step 3 — Allow location permission
The app needs location permission to send your current location during an emergency.
When Android asks for permission, select:
Allow while using the app
If the app offers background location updates, it may ask for background location permission separately.
Allow background location only if you want Sos Alert to send location updates even when the app is closed or the screen is off.
Step 4 — Allow notification permission
The app uses notifications to show when SOS mode is active and to inform you about important emergency actions.
When Android asks for notification permission, tap:
Allow
Step 5 — Enable Accessibility Service
To detect the fast SOS trigger using the volume button, the app may ask you to enable the Accessibility Service.
How to enable it:
Open the permission screen from inside the app.
Find Sos Alert in the Accessibility Services list.
Turn the service on.
Confirm the Android system message.
This permission is used only to help detect the SOS activation trigger. The app is not intended to read passwords, private messages, or personal screen content.
Step 6 — Add a trusted contact
Open the app settings and add a trusted contact who will receive your emergency alert.
Recommended trusted contacts:
Family member
Close friend
Neighbor
Someone who can help you quickly in an emergency
Enter:
Contact name
Phone number or email address
Then tap:
Save
Step 7 — Set up emergency email location updates
If email location updates are available in the app, the user only needs to enter the recipient email address.
Example:
[email protected]
Optional settings:
Sender display name — for example: “Sos Alert” or the user’s name.
Sending interval — for example: 15 minutes, 30 minutes, or 60 minutes.
When SOS mode is active, the app can send repeated location updates to the selected email address.
