At the central core of our body, spin seven main wheel-like energy centers called Chakras. Chakras have the ability to receive, assimilate and transmit energy.
Each chakra is a vortex, spinning life-force energy into or out of the body. In fact, the word chakra is from the Sanskrit word meaning "wheel of light".
There are 7 major chakras or energy wheels connected to and a part of the physical body. All are located on the torso and head. Each chakra transmits and receives life-force energy often called "qi" (pronounced "chi"), "prana", or "universal intelligence".
There are also 2 other important chakras: the Soul Star and the Earth Star chakras which are just above the head and below the feet respectively.
The Soul Star Chakra is not within the body and is known as the Seat of the Soul, the Soul Star is your connection to the Higher Self and where spiritual abilities are stored. It is the centre for ascension and spiritual enlightenment, the portal to pure Divine energy.
The Earth Star Chakra is also not within the body, it relates to the very foundation of your being within everyday life and also to your energy levels as this area is your anchor into physicality.

Because the feet are a map of the Human System, each Chakra is located exactly as appears in that System, for example, the Crown Chakra is located on top of the Big Toe, which is the Reflex area for the Head. The Throat Chakra is located at the base of the Big Toe, which is the Reflex area for the Throat on the foot and so on. They are all located along the midline of the body, those on the lower part of our body are our instinctual side, the highest ones our mental side.

They play an important role in our health and well-being. In an healthy body, the energy flow is harmonious and equilibrium is maintained in all the chakras. In the blocked chakras (similar to a blocked artery), the energy does not flow harmoniously. When we are in a state in ill health, the chakras may be distorted, out of alignment or even stagnant. When this happens, life force energy cannot flow in and out freely and the physical body may suffer. This results in an imbalance of the chakras.

During a Reflexology Treatment the Chakras can be balanced bringing them back to a state of harmony assisting and nurturing equilibrium.

Ways to Energize Your Chakras:
The Sun is our most important energy source. Through light all the seven colour energies flow from the sun’s rays to the earth. People, animals, plants, minerals, water and our chakras receive energy from the sun’s light.
What we wear will influence our mood, mind and energy level. Light penetrates through our clothing amplifying the color energy we are wearing. The more vibrant the clothing the better the energy transfer.
Thought is an energy form. Science has proven a positive thought allows our energy to flow freely and unrestricted. Whereas, negative thoughts decrease energy within our body. Every thought (whether mental or emotional) is connected to a chakra. For example, a passionate thought is a red energy stimulant, but an angry thought decreases one's positive red energy flow. This means that continual angry thoughts will lower your root chakra's energy, meaning that you may become less grounded and disconnected.

I will write more on this subject in relation to a Reflexology Treatment in future postings. I feel, I may have provided too much information here, however, I hope you will all find this interesting and informative.

It is felt by many that the earliest known reference to Reflexology seen below is more than 4000 years old. Illustrations found on the wall of the Physicians Tomb at Saqqara, Egypt dating from around 2,330BC shows the manipulation of specific points on the hands and feet. The Caption reads, "Please do not let it be painful", to which the Practitioner replies, "I shall work so you praise it".
Whatever may be the truth of this carving on the Tomb Wall, it is certainly thought provoking. An important reminder of the wisdom people thousands of years ago carried with them in their everyday lives.

Continuing with the theme that the feet are a Mirror of the Human Body, this great photo reinforces very forcibly the whole idea of the feet being a map of the Human System. In this case the saying that a 'Picture speaks a thousand words' was never more true than it is here. I hope, for all of you who are interested in the feet and the wonderful secrets they hold, that you will find this informative.

When I attended Hanne Marquardt's course in Reflexotherapy in Spring and Autumn 2014, I was very interested in the whole concept of 'Similarity of Shape'. The anatomical shape of the sitting human form reflected in the feet (which is called the micro-system), and its functional inter-relationship with the human body (called the macro-system) as can be seen in the diagram below, is very striking.
This assists us in becoming more aware of the secrets the feet have in store for us. Similarity of shape is another great leap forward in our quest to gain a greater understanding of the stories the feet have to tell. The diagram tells us more than any words ever could.
I hope these diagrams will help many of you who are somewhat unsure of Reflexology and how it relates to the feet.

I attended a CPD Course this weekend on Reflexology and Cancer Care - what a wonderful experience.
Reflexology is constantly developing and evolving, it is such an honour to be part of it. We owe a great debt of gratitude to Eunice Ingham, the pioneer of Modern Day Reflexology. The feet have many more stories to tell and I feel we will be absolutely astounded by what they have in store for us. The knowledge they are waiting to share with us will be imparted only when we are ready to receive it.
I provide a Mobile Therapy Service in Reflexology in Maternity, Baby and now Cancer Care, also Reiki, Indian Head Massage and Onsite Seated Chair Massage.
