As we catch our breath after a busy year, early autumn is the perfect time to turn our attention to spring flowering bulbs! 🌷
Planning a vibrant spring display comes down to smart planting choices and solid horticultural techniques. Here are a few top tips from our maintenance team to help you get a continuous 4-month show of blooms:
🌷 Go Big for Impact: Plant fewer clumps with more bulbs. If you buy 50 tulip bulbs, plant 5 groups of 10 rather than 10 groups of 5. Larger clusters create a striking splash of colour—and mean you can snip a few for vase displays at home without leaving gaps in the border.
💐 Plant for Continuity: Stagger your varieties by flowering times so you enjoy fresh colour from early spring right through late May before perennials wake up.
🌷 Tulips: Try Queen of Night, Ballerina, or Spring Green.
🌼 Narcissus: Pueblo (March–April) and Thalia (April–May) make wonderful, fragrant cut flowers.
💜 Alliums: Combine Purple Sensation, Christophii, and Sphaerocephalon to stretch colour across April, May, and June.
🌱 Quality Over Quantity: Always opt for the largest, healthiest bulbs you can afford—larger bulbs mean bigger, stronger blooms!
