Dear clients, partners and friends. I’m thrilled to finally share this with you. Today we rebrand from ‘Oakes Carpentry and Joinery’ to ‘Hengovek Studio’. This represents a pivotal moment in the evolution of the business. My passion has always been design, bespoke craft and delivering a commitment to quality. In the past this has been the businesses strength but not necessarily the focus. This change represents that shift.

‘Hengovek’ is a Cornish word meaning traditional. This linguistic connection encapsulates our dedication to timeless craftmanship. Our goal is to blend traditional values with innovative design. Cornwall is an undeniably special place, where creativity is celebrated and inspiration can be easily found. I can’t think of a better place to be located and to call home.

2023 was a year of growth and change, we expanded our premises, almost tripling the previous space. This additional space allowed us to invest in new machinery that will help improve the quality of work we can deliver. I also took the time to learn new skills and see what further improvements can be made.

2024 will see more investment and more exciting projects!
To start things off, we have a new website www.hengovekstudio.com please check it out and see some of the work we have been doing.
Probably most exciting of all, we also now have a YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/
Here we are going to be sharing workshop vlogs and shorts as well as finished projects. I’d be so grateful if you could have a look and if you enjoy the content (or just simply want to help out!) like and subscribe to the channel.

Finally I’d like to take this moment to thank everybody who has helped the business so far, support and help comes in so many forms and every small business relies on this sometimes invisible helping hand. Personal recommendations is still where the majority of our work comes from and it honestly means so much whenever someone recommends us.
A lot of the more unique projects we have completed could in no way have happened without the trust and open minds of the wonderful clients I feel so lucky to have worked with. A HUGE thank you to all past and future clients!

I don't usually share unfinished pieces but the excitement has proved too much with this one!
In collaboration with , we are crafting this magnificently sumptuous dining table!
The initial cuts were superbly completed yesterday by and . 👌
It just needs to sit and dry for a year or more now before being worked again to reach its final form. However, in the meantime I have a new desk!

Strikingly simple but simply striking! Statement stairs created from Bamboo and Birch plywood.
Quite the challenge to design due to the available space. I love the endgrain bamboo on the stair nosings and how the winders meander up and down. Stair commissions are so rewarding, always an absolute pleasure.

In years gone by couples would marry under an oak tree. Oaks were sacred to the Greek god Zeus and the Roman god Jupiter. Druids would often choose to carry out their worship in oak groves.
Even today some oak trees have achieved celebrity status.

Its wood has been used to flavour whisky and wine, build bridges and warships, create natural remedies and potions and it is still considered good luck to carry an acorn.

So... is it up to the task of being used for a shelf?

Thrilled to introduce the Roseland kitchen. In true contemporary shaker style. All designed and made here in our workshop. The mountain blue finish is based on a linseed oil colour and contrasts so well with the clean granite and local pippy oak.

The hand-made beaded face frames surround the doors and drawers adding elegance. They are classic feature of a bespoke made kitchen.
