The bedroom in this property was huge, so the client had the inspired idea of creating a dressing area consisting of two ‘his and hers’ wardrobes, with one standing almost like an island unit in the room. The panelled back creates a ‘wall’ for the bed and bedside cabinets to sit against, and creates a zoned space. We think it worked out very well and made the most of this beautiful space.

Did you know that when Mark started Churchwood Design in the early 1980’s, he was making plateracks in the small workshop at home! That soon progressed to kitchens, and a bigger workshop. I’m sure some of our clients from the 80’s and 90’s would recognise the blue rack shown in these photos as it was the best selling style (though back then everyone wanted them in an antique pine finish).
Anyway, maybe we’re getting nostalgic, but we’ve decided to start making plateracks again, along with a few other smaller items of furniture. For now we’ve set up an Etsy shop, but are in the process of building a website to sell them directly. If you’d like to have a look the Etsy shop is www.churchwooddesign.etsy.com

We are selling this dairy table/bakers table/freestanding island unit which we have had as part of our showroom display since 2014. We spent quite a lot of 2025 building bespoke furniture for various rooms of a Derbyshire country house, all made to a very prestigious architect/interior designer’s design and specification. It was definitely a challenge at times, but it was an honour to be a part of the project. I only have a few photos of the kitchen so far, hopefully more to follow!

We’re having a new year clear out so are selling a few items we’ve had in storage for a while, and also a few pieces of ex display showroom furniture!
First up is this large chest of drawers made from reclaimed pine. It was made as a showroom display item around the year 2000, then ended up at home but we no longer have space for it. So it’s used, but in very good condition having just had a fresh coat of wax. It measures 146.5cm wide, 45cm deep and 90cm high. £450 if collected, or we can deliver locally for free. If you’re further afield we can arrange delivery with a courier - please get in touch for a quote.

As this was parts of the larger kitchen, the storage consisted of a built in fridge and various larder cupboards with pull out trays and deep drawers 👌
