Further Progress!!

We have received confirmation that Allotment tenants and the Association will have access across the Railway Walk public right-of-way for both pedestrians and vehicles.

The Parish Clerk will now instruct a solicitor to complete negotiations for the Lease of the site from the Developer, which is great news!

Great News!

At the Parish Council meeting in February 2026 councillors agreed in principle to progress with the allotments approving the following:

•in principle, the Heads of Terms of the lease.

•in principle, the Devolved Management Agreement.

•in principle, to pay for the establishment of a metered connection to the water supply.

in principle, a grant of £2,500 to the Association.

•The Clerk is instructed to work with the relevant parties and obtain legal advice to finalise the agreements, up to a maximum cost of £1,500 and to return to Council with final draft documents for Council to consider.

Additionally, before formally instructing the Solicitor, the Clerk will contact SCC PROW (Suffolk County Council Public Rights of Way) to explain that the PC is proceeding with the legal handover of the allotments and follow up on their 2018 letter to clarify their requirements, if any, concerning legal documentation.
To see all the supporting document see the PC meetings webpage Meetings 2025/26.

We are working to get the information needed from SCC PROW, so that the legal agreements can be drafted and agreed. Once we have reached this stage we will invite applications to be made for the allotments.

The latest information we have is that we should have 12 plots which will be approx 9m x 4m. The likely cost will be approx £50/year.

To keep up to date please follow us on Facebook or check our webpage on the PC website.

This is to introduce ourselves to you as the Lavenham Community Allotments Association. We are a local group set up to help run the allotments proposed near the Railway Walk. Those involved in this community group are Francesca Tatum, Chairman; Rosanna Stacey, Treasurer; Tracey Brinkley, Secretary; Paul Thompson, Membership Secretary; and additional committee members Paul Stalker, Joan Bornett, and Rik Barwick.

We are working with the Parish Council to progress with negotiating the necessary legal agreements to establish the allotments on the site.

We wanted to contact other local community groups to inform them of the latest news! We will post further updates on our page, Lavenham Community Allotments Association, and ask the Parish Council to put updates on their website, so please use these to find out the latest.

We are currently obtaining more information about the number and sizes of allotments to be provided and the site's layout. The allotments will likely be smaller than a traditional large allotment, but we think this will work well! We are also aware that there will be a relatively small number of allotments on offer, so when we know more precise details, we will invite anyone interested in having an allotment to get in touch!

If anyone is interested in joining the committee, please get in touch with Tracey Brinkley, the Secretary, via our email [email protected]

Hi everyone,

Unfortunately I have nothing to report right now.

I’m here because I have a question.

I’m wondering if there is anyone that has a small area of their garden that they would be happy letting me use for growing things? Perhaps it would be better if someone who has an area already set up to do it.

I would do it on my garden but it’s not very big and I have other plans for what is free.

There was a lady who had an area of her garden that was already set up but she didn’t have the time to do anything. I can’t remember her name though. If you see this and no one has taken you up on your offer, could you contact me please so we can chat.

Right, the person that I asked to be in the working group has come back back saying they’re unable to.

Is there anyone who might like to be part of it?

We just need 1 more person to make it to the 4 people needed.

If you’re interested, message me with your email address

So I’ve had an email from Charles about allotments today as he has been in fairly regular contact with the developers behind Deacons. He spoke to them the other day and it was revealed that there would only be enough space for 8 allotment plots on their piece of land which obviously won’t be enough for the whole village which is quite disappointing.

In my last post, I said that the next step would be to find a piece of land which we could buy, big enough for the village. Now that we know for definite that the land behind deacons won’t be sufficient for the whole village, getting that piece of land for everyone is as important as ever.

I do have another matter which I need to ask which I don’t think I’ve put on here yet. Being part of the council, I’m part of a working group which looks after a few things. Myself and Charles and one other are already part of this group but we need one more, I’m waiting to hear back from a neighbour to to see if they would like to be part of the group but if not then I shall be back on here to ask if anyone would be interested.

The things that we will be sorting out initially are: allotments, tree planting and the Lavenham Walk.

I’ll be back on to update everyone about that position
