Have you heard about Skin ribbons?

Skin Ribbons are an accumulation of dead or detached skin cells that form long, paper-thin sheets or layers within the ear canal. They occur when the natural self-cleaning migration process fails, often due to narrow or curvy ear canals, leading to blockage, reduced hearing, and sometimes intense itching or noise.

Cause: The skin lining the ear canal constantly sheds and moves outward; if this process is disrupted, the skin can accumulate, fold, and form ribbons. Also, age plays a factor, due to dry skin within the canals

Appearance: They can appear as long, thin ribbons or even double layers covering the eardrum, normally with wax blended in.

Removal: A professional typically removes them using tools like a speculum, micro-forceps, or suction, often revealing clearer hearing for the patient.

Good morning Canvey residents.

Not so long along ago, I had the the pleasure to meet Dr Swami where I carried out an ear clean for him. Then through the week, he recommended me to his best friend (and partner in crime) Dr Patel!

Dr Patel was desperate to have his ears cleaned as he couldn’t hear and he was off to a wedding reception in London that evening. After I finished with him, his ears were lovely and clear.

I know lots of you see him walking down the seafront, waving and saying hello to everyone on his journey. But after losing his wife, Mrs Patel 5 years ago, he still keeps happy and positive and has time for everyone he meets daily especially Dr Swami (who he keeps an eye and takes him for all his appointments).

This is just an update for Canvey residents, who appreciated Dr Swami & Dr Patels hard and committed work over the many years. And may they both continue to have a healthy and happy life.
