Roses & Patina was established in Nov' 2015 by me, Gayna, born out of a passion for creating beautiful restyled, refurbished, restored, furniture and home accessories. I also take commission work, so if you have a beloved piece of furniture that has been in your family for a long time but looks out of place in your home, I can update it for you and make it beautiful again. I have many years exper

ience in restoring furniture to a very high standard and pride myself in a very professional finish on every project I undertake.

I popped into an and fell in love with this big old leather cash book from #1945 so I treated myself for Christmas. The leather is disintegrating a bit I (can fix that), but the inside is full of amazing information about sales of clothing; some addresses are from the village where I live which is really interesting to me. What a beautiful thing it is, I have plans for the inside (not ripping them out). This book was started before finished, so there are mentions of that were used during the .

It’s a very rainy day here in northwest Cumbria, so I am dedicating it totally to self care and rejuvenation.
I’ve been working on making my garden pretty for summer for the past couple of weeks, so my body will thank me for a well earned rest.
My three dogs will enjoy having me available to cuddle up with also. which is always lovely

I went to Silloth Sunday market this morning which started up again last week. I bought a few treasures, but was quite restrained for me. I bought this gorgeous little 1940’s nylon stocking pouch in a box, I have no idea why as it’s not my usual type of thing, but I just loved it. I’ve never seen one of these before - have you? I’d love some info on it xx

This is Stella, our new floof. We’ve been told that she’s about six years old and didn’t have a very nice start in life. She’s landed on her little dinky paws now though, she will be spoiled rotten like our other two fur brats.
She is absolutely ball mad and has just ran around for four hours solid without stopping - I’m going to be run off my feet!
Those ears though, they are nearly as big as she is šŸ˜‚

Another heavily patina’d cabinet almost finished, just waiting for the beautiful brass castors and then it’s good to go. This piece has had so many colours and techniques done to arrive at this earthy textured finish and it was great fun doing it.

Another heavily textured piece being finished off for this weekend. There’s about five different Ā® colours on this so far and the first coat of wax has just been added.
Saturday I will be playing with different waxes and then decide on the hardware and legs.
This is another one of my ā€˜nature inspired’ patina pieces after the retreat I went on a few weeks ago in the Lake District, I can’t get enough of these earth colours lately.

This grain sack has a wonky print on it so when I come to apply it to the board it set my OCD into orbit. I love old, worn, imperfect vintage stuff, but I have a very precise eye when it comes to things being straight (must come from my 17 years as a hairdresser in a previous century - literally!)
I’ve had to take it back off and build a stretching contraption to get it straight.
This is going to be the back of my dining/photography table when it’s finished.

I get totally lost in the process of creating vintage pieces, its a mindful way to stay in the ā€˜now’, (which sounds like an oxymoron, but makes total sense to me)
Today I’ve been prepping large wooden frames and naturally hand-dyeing cotton grain sacks with coffee to create a more cohesive look for my project tomorrow.
The frames have been stripped right back, white washed to knock back the red of the mahogany and then stained to the more neutral colour I needed.
This piece is to go in my lounge above the table I painted last week (I’ll post some in situ shots when it’s all set up).
