Find / create motivation - amazing progress is possible !
After a period of enforced inactivity following a hernia repair, I like many of us let myself go a bit! I piled on the lbs but didn’t despair! At 52 I knew that I could pull myself back from the malaise - what I needed was a strong goal!!
Now the key is finding, a goal, an aim, a motivator, that is sufficiently strong that allows you to resist negative temptations that come along that try to blow you off course - you know the thing an offer of a few pints down the pub, an extra serving of pudding, ‘come and watch the latest blockbuster’ rather than go to the gym (again!).
Often for me it’s signing up for a sponsored event and training hard to ensure I complete it - I don’t want to let myself or others down. This time I decided that my personal best website needed a visual revamp. The existing photos of me needed replacing - I wanted to have visuals, to themselves be a motivator for the older person - showing what’s possible. So I booked a photoshoot and the results will soon be downloaded onto www.personalbestpt.co.uk - you can then judge for yourself.
Part way through the transformation- PADDY MCGUINNESS, intervened !!! There he was staring out from the front page of Men’s Health! He is the same age as me and wrote about his own transformation- well I manufactured internalised competition- to look as good or better than the much loved TV personality. This further spurred me on!
If you are reading this and it rings a chord but you are not sure of your motivator - please drop me a line! Happy to find one for you often though simply having a PT in your corner supporting and holding you to account can be a powerful step to the new you.
