The skin on your feet can get really rough, and it’s usually the kids or a significant other who spot it! Or that moment we decide to get our feet out for those summer shoes. 🌞

That rough and hard skin we normally cause callus, and while most of the time it’s cosmetic, it can become a problem. 👣

Sometimes it forms because of medical conditions such as psoriasis, because the skin turnover and production is quicker. 🧬

But on the whole, callus forms in response to load changes on the epidermis (outer most skin layer).

And is seen as thicker areas of skin. Sometimes a bit yellowish in colour.

There are things that you can do to help. ✅

Filing and moisturising with a great urea based cream works wonders. ✅

Footwear that helps to support the heel fat pad, and reduces load during activity. ✅

Oh, and seeing a professional if you need some extra attention.

Callus generally doesn’t cause an issue, but when the pressure gets too great, sometimes it can lead to problems if you have a loss of sensation or poor circulation.

When you see a verruca on your child, your heart sinks. 💜

What will people think?🤔

What do I do about it?🤔

Am I a bad parent?🤔

It happens to us all and it’s more common that you think, in children and adults.

(You’re not a bad parent BTW)

Verrucas are a virus.👣

Part of the Human Papiloma Virus (HPV) Family.

And what the virus does is “gets into” a host cell and then does some viral-magic to survive.

The virus then hides and produces chemicals to keep it out of the immune systems watchful eye.👣

Any treatment that we use, has to show the virus to the immune system and say “look, it’s here”.

Then it could do it’s magic.

But, and it’s a big but, no treatment is 100% effective.

(And it someone tells you they have one that is, then call them out, because they are lying)

So what can we do?

Well, there’s a lot but probably the simplest four are:

1. Time (AKA leave them alone)
2. Tape - softens the verruca and makes it more comfy so that number 1 can kick in.
3. Chemical - use a chemical to invoke a skin reaction and hope the immune system finds the verruca at the same time.
4. Needling - create a cell mediated response to give the immune system a wake up call.

If the verruca causes no issue, then 1 and 2 are ideal. If you are getting painful symptoms then 3 and 4 are useful.

Ultimately it’s about treating you as an individual.💜👣

Well everyone, I have just finished sterilising the last of my instruments, so that is me done for 2021.✅ What a busy, exciting and ever changing year it has been.

I am taking some time time off now to be with my family and loved ones. Im going to have one excited 2.5 year old this Christmas 🎄Thoroughly looking forward to some quality family time. 👨‍👩‍👦

So I have added a services section to this page which outlines my prices per appointment.

Please note I carry out treatments within your own home and bring all the equipment required with me. I am fully insured and all of my instruments are scrubbed and sterilised meeting clinical sterilisation requirements (using my autoclave).
