Rummaging (sourcing) for materials in a charity shop is always exciting. You never know what you might find. When I come across a bag of bits I will buy after only the shortest of glances, not really looking at everything but making a decision anyway. Who thought it a good idea to take a spray can to flowers? A couple of weeks ago I saw chrysanthemums coloured sky-blue (it was Mother's Day and the display was in pastel shades). But these are lilys. A flower that comes in quite a range of joyful colours, some even have a perfume. These remind me of a scene from 'Alice in wonder land' and the song 'painting the roses red' echo in my ears. [ 54 more words ]

The words of the song hum through my head. Our beloved car became uneconomical to repair a couple of 6 weeks back. Now not having learnt to drive and being 'fine' with public transportation (such as it is). It's not really affected me, our village is blessed with two corner shops, a butcher and a pharmacy. And internet shopping is blissful as I don't have to haul it up the 8 steep steps to the cottage. [ 53 more words ]

as week comes to an end, I'm putting the finishing touches to a small collection. It's to highlight the problems 'fast fashion' has. From the 300,000 tonnes of textiles thrown away each year (U.K.) to the working conditions of those who manufacture your '3 for £5' tea-shirts and I've not even gone to the resources used! The collection, launching on May 1st is using vintage and preloved textiles and a method of embroidery based on a traditional Japanese sashiko stitch.

once I would of apologised for the long, long gap in my blogging. But I'm not any longer. The break, because.......... it kind of don't matter. I'm back now. I've changed direction slightly. Being a night-owl, having breakfast at half past five in the morning is not really my idea of fun! but today is different. The day I have known about, the one that has sat quietly at the back of my brain since the age of ten, has dawned. Its quiet at the mow but soon the routine of a hospital prepping me for major surgery will start and I will awake tomorrow repaired and stitched. [ 152 more words. ]

September is slowly mellowing. An evening now brings a chill to the air and hedgerow harvests fill our larders ready for winter. In the Issy cottage our days are taken up with making the most of the light as days get shorter, preserving the veg garden and preparing the cottage for the colder times ahead. It's only a few weeks to the enforced limits placed on me to allow my body to recouperate from major surgery. [ 135 more words. ]

A tence calm has descended on the cottage. A small piece of information has been delivered. The snippet that held my life in limbo so long, arrived by phone. While I have needy this fact to move my life on, it's knowledge is bitter sweet. I feel the concerned worry unspoken and unsaid by all of my family. I now have the date for heart surgery. Yesterday there was never a truer word. He who dares wins. I now have a vision of Del Boy and Rodney, the London eastend markets and my uncle Les bringing stuff home from the pub ( we never asked its provinance) While my habit of never passing a skip without having a look sometimes annoys Mr Iss, it paid off tenfold. Never sit there feeling creative but making excuses like I have now paint, or I have no.........Whatever. I use discarded clothing and home textiles, a pair of scissors and a sewing needle. You can use the back of an envelope, the yellow pages, crayons, charcoal or a rock of chalk! This guy uses a hairdryer and plastic bags found on the street. bbc.in/1NqmWma Making amazing portraits.
