Friends of Big Table This page started when the The Big Table Showroom and Workshop came under threat of permanent closure during the early stages of the Crossrail project.

A much loved and used truly local business of many years standing : these pages were originally created in 2011 to co-ordinate and share news, activities and materials during the successful campaign to persuade Crossrail not to take compulsory purchase possession of the whole site for temporary office space.

General information

"The people at Crossrail, the £16 billion cross / under London rail scheme (or Boris's Vanity Project) have decided to take possession of Big Table's showroom and workshops and turn them into much needed (ahem) site offices. And so, after almost 30 years, we must be out by Saturday 24th September, 2011. "We've fought the good fight but to no avail. There's no right of appeal. We are, however, still taking orders for deliveries throughout August and September and we shall endeavour to meet our customary lead time of one week. So if you, or anyone close to you, are thinking about a new bed, and/or mattress, give us a call. Just don't leave it too long. "It's all a bit sudden and we haven't yet found other premises but we're keeping our phone number and website live so watch this space. "Finally, many thanks for your custom, for your referrals, and for being a part of our story at Great Western Road."
