For the London Design Festival I am so excited to be showcasing my Inky Dhow pattern – created during lockdown, drawn from my Dhow design which was originally inspired by the billowing movement of striped sails on the traditional boats I once spied sailing around the Gulf of Oman – during our month-long Inky Dhow installation at Sketch. Here you’ll see it translated across a variety of materials, executed using a combination of age-old and cutting-edge techniques by our wonderful expert craft partners from around the world, but always interpreted in my signature contemporary style.

Come immerse yourself in the kaleidoscopic look, feel and emotional resonance of Inky Dhow at Sketch until October 16th, brought to life through my collaborations with Shamsian, Bill Amberg Studio, 1882 Ltd. , BARONCELLI and cc-tapis

About last week - I’m was so excited to be back in Milan, showing my Inky Dhow collection together for the first time. Inky Dhow is a pattern I hand painted with calligraphy brushes and ultramarine ink during lockdown, inspired by my original Dhow design which echoes the billowing movement of the striped lateen sails on the traditional dhow boats sailing around the Gulf of Oman.

Here you’ll see it translated across a variety of materials, executed using age-old techniques by our wonderful expert craft partners located all around the world, but always interpreted in my signature inviting and contemporary way, perfect for 21st century modern living.

Please join us to really experience the incredible look, feel and emotional resonance of my collaborations with the Muscat-based marquetry workshop , overseen by one of our most special craft partners Mohammad Reza Shamsian, , , , and .

The Nizwa bar cabinets were inspired by customers wanting to adapt our existing four-door cabinet in the collection. Using the same ancient marquetry techniques for finishing the façades, inside I wanted it to bring as much glamorous back into the home as possible

I am very proud to be able to share with you my collaboration with cc-tapis. My Inky Dhow painted pattern has been transformed into a hand-knotted rug by Tibetan Artisans who have translated the organic brushstrokes knot by knot.

Using ink and calligraphy brushes on watercolour paper, Bethan has transformed her iconic Dhow pattern, inspired by the billowing sails of Omani Dhows into the aptly named 'Inky Dhow'. A pattern with a wonderfully natural and irregular line, visual mark-making illustrating the expressive hand of Bethan, where each brushstroke varies in flow and width. Applying this to her handcrafted furniture and ceramics, she paints for each project by hand, understanding the scale, materials and proportions of the object.

Watch this space for a rug collection for cc-tapis launching tomorrow . . .
