A visit. A friendly phone call.
A shared conversation over a cup of tea.
These simple acts can help an older person feel connected, valued and less alone.

This Volunteers' Week, we thank every one of our volunteer befrienders for their kindness, compassion and commitment shown throughout the year.
Their support helps older people across our communities maintain confidence, independence and meaningful social connections.

Together, we're proving that small conversations really do have a big impact.

As part of Volunteers' Week 2026, we were delighted to attend the Bexley Volunteer Fair hosted by Volunteer Centre Bexley at The Nest in Thamesmead.

The event brought together charities, community groups and local residents, all sharing a common goal: making a difference through volunteering.

At Crossroads SEL volunteer befriending is just one of the ways we support unpaid carers and older people across our community.

A friendly conversation, regular contact and a listening ear can have a lasting impact on someone's wellbeing, confidence and sense of connection.
A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by our stand to learn more about volunteering with us.

Volunteers help strengthen communities, reduce isolation and remind people that they matter.

A message from our CEO Darren Tobin…

“I am continually reminded that our volunteers are at the very heart of everything we do.

While we provide a wide range of services to support unpaid carers, older people and those facing isolation, the compassion, commitment and generosity of our volunteers enable us to reach far more people than we could alone.
From befriending and community support to fundraising and governance, our volunteers bring an incredible breadth of lived experience, knowledge and understanding.

They help us remain connected to the communities we serve and ensure that people feel seen, valued and supported.

I am particularly grateful to those who give their time as trustees, community champions and fundraising supporters.
Their dedication strengthens our charity and helps us continue delivering meaningful, person-centred support across our operating boroughs.

Every volunteer makes a difference. Whether offering an hour a week or contributing years of service, your impact is profound.
Quite simply, we could not achieve what we do without you.

On behalf of everyone at Crossroads Care SEL thank you for your commitment, kindness and belief in our mission.

Our adult volunteer befriending service is just one of the many services we provide but its impact can be life-changing.
Volunteers are not a ‘nice to have’.

For many older people, they are the human connection that helps them cope, stay connected and feel valued.

Our volunteer befrienders help reduce loneliness, strengthen wellbeing and remind people they are not facing life alone.

This Volunteers’ Week, we thank our volunteer befrienders who give their free time, compassion and support to make a real difference in our community.

Are you interested in volunteering, partnering or fundraising for us?

We’d love to hear from you.

We’ve gone airborne with this one!

While our fantastic care team usually keeps its feet firmly on the ground, the message is simple:

If you or a loved one could benefit from a helping hand at home, we’re here to support you with compassionate, person-centred care.

No turbulence. No complicated jargon. Just practical and emotional support from a local charity who genuinely care.

We are incredibly honoured that Crossroads SEL has been selected as one of the Mayor of Bexley’s chosen charities for the forthcoming civic year, alongside Diabetes UK Bexley Support Group & Trulybeloved: a children’s charity.

As a local charity dedicated to supporting unpaid carers and older people across Bexley, this recognition means a great deal to us and to the communities we serve every day.

We are looking forward to working closely with the Mayor of Bexley and supporting the Mayor’s Charity Appeal over the coming year, helping to raise awareness of the invaluable contribution unpaid carers make within our communities, while continuing to ensure they receive the support, recognition and services they deserve.
