The last three of the week, and they’re just beautiful. The Johnson Brothers Millstream sugar bowl — pink and red transferware with a romantic watermill scene, complete with its original lid and twin handles.

Then the Keeling & Co jug — and this one is a proper antique, dating to circa 1890. It’s got this gorgeous faceted octagonal body with rust-orange florals and a cobalt blue handle dripping with gold accents. It makes the most wonderful statement flower vase now.

And then Royal Doulton “A Winter’s Morn” (HN4622) — limited edition number 1,934, sculpted by John Bromley for Compton & Woodhouse. She’s in a sweeping white winter coat with a fur m**f and the most delicate gold bow details. All-white bone china figurines are so hard to find in this condition. She is genuinely special.

What a Saturday. Three figurines arrived and honestly, laying them out side by side was just such a joyful moment. First up, Royal Doulton “Top O’ The Hill” — the classic Leslie Harradine design, this is the 2004 edition (HN4778) from the Pretty Ladies Best of the Classics collection. She’s caught mid-gust, clutching her hat, those wonderful ruffled red and yellow skirts flying.

Then the Royal Doulton Disney Cinderella (DP1 from the Walt Disney Showcase Collection) — blue ballgown, hand-painted.

And finally — the one that made me audibly gasp — Coalport Lady Caroline. Limited edition number 1,195 of 9,500, sculpted by John Bromley for Compton & Woodhouse’s “Edwardian Garden Party” collection in 1996. The pink and white layered dress, the ruffled parasol, the floral hat — pure romantic English charm.

My number one rule when sourcing — and I have to remind myself of it constantly.
Would you pick this up on a good day?
If the honest answer is no — put it back. You're only reaching for it because it's been a slow one, and that's never a good reason to buy.
It's a hard habit to build but it has saved me from so many purchases I'd have regretted. The right pieces are worth waiting for.

She arrived this week and I am absolutely in love with her. This is the Royal Worcester "Keepsake" figurine — limited edition, number 11,928 out of 12,500 — sculpted by J. Bromley for Compton & Woodhouse. The detail is really something: a green lace-effect bodice, applied pink roses climbing the skirt, delicate gold trim throughout, and the most gorgeous little miniature locket detail at the neckline. It's the kind of piece you have to look at twice because there's always something else to notice.

She's in beautiful condition — light wear only, exactly what you'd expect of something this age and quality.

Oh, what a way to end the working week. The Royal Worcester Keepsake figurine is just incredible — she’s limited edition, number 11,928 of 12,500, sculpted by J. Bromley for Compton & Woodhouse. The green lace-effect bodice, applied pink roses climbing the skirt, gold detailing throughout and a tiny miniature locket at the neckline.

Then the James Kent tea-for-one set, Pattern 4040 — the craquelure glaze with pink roses and gold rims, all four pieces present (tray, teacup, milk jug, sugar bowl). These sets are so hard to find, I was so pleased.

And rounding things off beautifully, a three-piece French porcelain vanity set — white with hand-painted gold florals, marked “B.B France” on the base. Charming and so quietly beautiful.

This arrived in the studio this week and I had to do a little bit of research because the name on the back stopped me in my tracks — Margery Clinton is a Scottish studio potter and ceramicist who worked through the mid-twentieth century and this framed ceramic tile is a proper signed original artwork from the 1960s. The greens and blues are extraordinary — that particular earthy, considered palette that mid-century studio ceramics do better than almost anything. It is already framed and ready to hang, which makes it so easy to place — on a gallery wall, above a desk, over a mantelpiece. This is a piece for someone who cares about art as well as decoration.

The studio has had the most lovely arrivals today and I am so pleased with all three — a beautiful gilded Coalport Floris bone china shell trinket dish that is the epitome of English refinement, a quite extraordinary framed ceramic tile by the Scottish artist Margery Clinton in the most wonderful 1960s greens and blues, and a gorgeous Celtic Pottery Newlyn drinks set from Cornwall that is properly midcentury and characterful.
