Hello to everyone, we hope that you are staying safe and well in these confusing times. Today I have been over to Manchester to see a man about an amp, and was pleasantly surprised to find a great little workshop, with two very pleasant, helpful, and knowledgeable people. Although I am great at sorting guitars, mandolins, violas, basses, and the like, I am sadly lacking in the knowledge, and probably the talent, as far as amplifiers and foot pedals and the like are concerned, in fact I am convinced that there are magic imps that mimic the noises, and then reproduce them through a flugel horn, or some such implement of louderness. I am the first to admit that it is not my area of expertise, however, Milt, and Connor at Miltron Musical Electronics Repair are both very approachable, and they do have the required electrickery to do the job, and do it well. If any of my clients have any problems with their ampification, or the periphery and plethora of pedals and acoutriments, then these are the people to see. I am more than willing to take things over for you if required, but I recommend getting in touch with Milt for yourself, and the rates that these guys charge for a top notch job is very reasonable. Please take a look at their page, and if you want get in touch with Milt, he really is a top geezer, and knows his stuff. I can't recommend them highly enough, and will definitely be using them again in the future.

To all my friends, family, and clients, please stay safe during this crisis, and follow the guidelines that the government are urging us to take part in.

We at quo guitars are continuing to work to finish the jobs that are in, but there is only myself and Edward in there, so we are isolated from everyone, and once these jobs are completed we will continue to take in jobs, however we will take them in at the doorway and remain at distance from you, as our household contains a transplant patient, a pre dialysis patient, one person with special needs, a carer, and of course myself recovering from cancer treatment, so don't think we are being rude.

We will of course take every precaution we are advised to, and ask you to do likewise, for all our safety.

We wish all of you good health, and all the luck that this virus is contained and none of us contract it. We thank you all for your support, and hope that you all stay well. We are still here to talk to on messenger if you want to, and we'll see you all when this crisis is over.

Two guitars in from the same client today, both for a service and setup, and a general clean. Both pretty guitars in their own seperate ways, and both have come out looking, sounding, and playing better. Hopefully the client thinks so as well. Quo

Last week we had a Guild acoustic 6 string come in in quite a poorly way. She came in for a fingerboard binding after some of the binding had come away, but on closer inspection we found quite a lot of problems with her.

Of course we fixed the thing that she came in for, and discovered the problems that had caused it. When she was manufactured there was a lack of glue used to fix the bindings on, and that combined with being very, very dry had caused the bindings to shrink and become detached from the fingerboard.

As we looked over the instrument we found that it was not only the fingerboard that was suffering from this complaint, but the entire body, so these were sealed and temporarily stabilized until she comes back for further treatment.

The client had bought this instrument econd hand, and she is otherwise very well built, and the kerfing to the ribs is quite beautiful workmanship. We checked her fully, and discovered that the truss rod was locked due to overspray, and the previous owner has tried to put on their own nut and saddle (never, ever a good idea!), with both being off centre, and badly cut, and the spacing on the nut being I would guess "estimated". I have seen work like this from music shops before, so it is always better to track down your luthier yourself rather than go through a middle man, you will get the job done correctly then.

All in all we have made her better around the fingerboard, and the stabilization will hold until the client returns later in the year with her.

It really is a shame to see a beautiful instrument like this having such abuse, but I must add that this was not done by our client, and he is fully satisfied with the work done so far. Here's to hoping that she will soon return and be returned to her former glory, and the client can enjoy her the way she was meant to be enjoyed. Quo

A few before and after shots of a beautiful little parlour guitar, a Dallas Lorelei made around the WW2 era. She was is a sorry state after being kept in the loft for years, and the client wanted a sympathetic restoration to commemorate his late Father, who's guitar it was. She now plays again, and is structurally sound and sealed so should see me out.

The client was very pleased with the result, as was I after seeing the reaction of him when I actually played if for him. Outstanding mention should also go to Neil at Newtone Strings who's Heritage series of acoustic strings brought her sound to life, and with reduced tension on the strings are ideal for an instrument of this age. Here at Quo Guitars we all hope that the client enjoys this restoration, and every so often, she is taken down from the wall and played a little.

It was an absolute pleasure doing this restoration, and the reaction of the client has really made all of us at Quo Guitars very happy. Take care everyone, Quo @ Quo Guitars

I know I haven't posted for a while, but I haven't been idle, family matters took over for a while, but I'm back with another build, this time a pickup winder from scraps and off cuts for less than £25. Not the prettiest, but she does what I want her to do, and will see me out. Quo

***NOMINATE SOMEONE TO WIN THIS BASS AND AMP***

A kind customer contacted Blackstone Music this week and bought this bass and practice amp. Over the years music has been her main passion and has helped her through some tough times. She's asked us to donate this instrument to someone who has perhaps also been through tough times and will get some pleasure and benefit from music.

So we're asking for your help. Share this post and nominate someone you feel deserves this gift and give a short explanation. The nominee with the most likes will get the bass, amp, case and strap and hopefully begin their musical journey.
Closing date for nominees is the 30th of September.

Shipping within the UK free of charge.

Cheers folks.
