Hull Urban Gardener I write about plants and gardening and have a tiny urban garden in Hull, UK.

My new book, The Modern Cottage Garden, is out in July 2020 and is about an exciting new style of garden that is easy to recreate at home, even in a small space.

I like looking at the garden in winter when it’s a bit scruffy and coming up with plans - I’m going to move a lot of the perennials and roses in the next three months or so - I think of it a bit like rearranging furniture in the house! Oh and then there’s the understorey of wandering strawberries and brambles to tidy up, but that is the work of moments and can wait until the ground has dried out a bit more - still very soggy underfoot!

Nearly three years since I started overhauling the wilderness - it’s all been done with hand tools and elbow grease!

Hull Urban Gardener

I moved to Hull from east London in 2017 with my wife and in Feb 2018 we moved to a house with a tiny backyard garden. It was a blank canvas but has quickly grown as the number of plants and containers has multiplied! I love sharing tips on growing plants in small spaces and how to get quick results in the garden. Lots of ideas from the garden feature in my new book The Modern Cottage Garden, published by Timber Press and due for release in summer 2020.
