Painstakingly restoring the side panels of an 18c French console table, using some of the bits that had been salvageable, to work out what would had been there originally.
Due to being sanded down so many times, from previous restoration efforts, a lot had been lost.

This 18c French bureau plat had had, in the past, the height of the legs reduced by 2.5 inches. I was asked to return it to its original height.
The original ormalu foot had been placed over the shortened end of the leg and to do this they had had to cut all the original veneer off to make it fit. Thankfully one out of the 16 sides survived and I was therefore able to copy it faithfully.
The repair is done in different opposing angle cuts so the eye cannot so easily pick up or notice the repair when the bureau plat is standing on its feet again.

An errant elbow went through the cane work of this mahogany bergere chair.
I pre-fumed the replacement cane to give it a mellow look to match the original.

House flood caused a serious amount of damage to this Rosewood parquetry card table with all its veneers lifting and the old baize staining and lifting.
All the loose veneer has been repaired and relaid using a technique known as hot blocking and the old damaged french polish revived and resurfaced.
I couldn’t save the original baize but was able to save the leather detail surrounding it.

The end of my family holiday was a little marred by test and trace and a 10 day isolation but it did give me the opportunity to spend the time re-roofing my home workshop and loads of gardening.

Sometimes we all have to be flexible. Ideally I like to work in the workshop with all my tools around me and a bench, however this repair had to be done on site. The work started with the customer sending me a photo and some measurements, I used these to make up a representation of the piece that was missing from the foot of a grandfather clock.
This job will be completed when I return with some other work, giving it time to dry.

This Victorian walnut chair, which is a family treasure, had been converted over the years into a swivel arm chair. It was brought to me with old woodworm damage which had eaten away some of the carving on the arms and legs and had gone into the glue joints throughout.
As is normal in cases like these the upholstery was the only thing keeping it together.
The damaged areas have all been replaced with sound walnut and it’s been glued up. It is now ready for reupholstering

This restoration job has involved turning new k***s for a Victorian chest of draws. I now just have to finish the polishing in order to closer colour match the originals.
