Loft boarding has been non-stop recently — thanks to everyone for keeping us busy!

After a bit of time off this week it’s given me time to reflect on how things have taking a massive turn with the work load we have turned down to be in this position I can’t thank my customers enough

So I’ve planned our next move, and as we now have a few extra lads on the loft boarding team, I want to give a little back to our customers.

The amount of jobs I’ve seen recently where customers have been told you don’t need to raise the floor when loft boarding — or that boards can simply be fitted straight to the joists — is worrying. This is simply not correct.

There’s a reason loft stilts are used:

*keeps within NHBC standards✅

* They help maintain insulation depth✅

* Allow airflow✅

* Help prevent issues caused by compressing insulation✅

* Create a stronger and more suitable raised storage area✅

What’s also concerning is that many companies don’t even mention to customers that they’re fitting boards directly onto the joists.

Another thing to watch for is pricing shown in square feet rather than square metres. It can make the area sound much larger than it actually is.

We’ve compared prices ourselves by converting square footage into metreage, and in many cases what we offer is nearly double plus the coverage for the money.

Everyone’s out to make a living, and that’s fair enough — but do your own research, convert measurements properly, and always get multiple quotes.

The cheapest option is not always the best. A quick check of reviews, feedback, and previous work should help give you a good impression of the company you’re dealing with.

Back in Montgomery Park yesterday for a returning customer.

✔️ 13 square metres of loft floor space created
✔️ Raised correctly on stilts
✔️ Ladder refitted correctly
✔️ Hatch removed and fitted to allow the ladder to operate smoothly

Got a call out for an emergency job and this is what we turned up to…

Nearly 40sqm of subfloor needing ripped out and redone so the floor layers could get the herringbone fitted properly.

Luckily I managed to move my own work about to get over and help out. Safe to say I’ve still got a 14-hour shift in me 😁

The horrors we uncovered 🤦‍♂️

* Caber floor boards sitting directly on top of pipes
* Old carpet cuttings stuffed underneath
* Areas with no timber supports at all
* Timber resting straight on pipework

…and the list goes on.

We went in expecting the worst, and somehow it still managed to surprise us.
