It's taken a while due to work commitments and still a little more to do but I couldn't wait to post photos of the bedding box that we are putting in our spare room now we have an empty nest with our youngest buying a house.

This was built by a friend's father who was a carpenter and whilst it was too old fashioned for their house (see last photo for the before pic) they didn't want it to go to landfill. Well it's certainly going to have many more years of use now!

I used Lichen and smooth paint rollers

Congratulations to my wife Caroline Tiplady De Mouilpied and her business Cheshire Home Fragrance for winning the Best Independent Shop Front in the Made in Stockport Awards yesterday.

She moved from her Workshop to her new shop in Hazel Grove less than a year ago and her shop fronts have been brightening up people's day ever since. So many people have said how her themed displays put a smile on their face as they walk or drive past each day.

Small businesses like this need your support more than ever so when you see a retailer making an effort and making a positive contribution to the local community, stop and walk in rather than walk by.

When I had to clear my warehouse full of hundreds of pieces of furniture, I wanted to keep a few pieces to upcycle myself once I had the time.

This is one of them. I just loved the shape of the base and I knew it would look great with a restored natural wood top and with Coal Black to highlight it's shape.

The makers mark thankfully came off in one piece and it just needs another coat to finish it off. Looking forward to finishing it.

It's been over a year since I put down my brush and went back to a proper job as a Chartered Surveyor and it has been great over the last couple of Saturdays spending the day sanding and painting back in my workshop!

This is a Blanket Box made by the father of someone my wife knows and I really couldn't let it go like all the other furniture I had. So finally it is starting a transformation.

Furniture Upcycling and restoration is so good for your mental health and a great way to relax after a busy week at work.

With the top sanded back to reveal the natural colour of the wood a green paint to the main body and some decoupage in the panels this should look great.

Looking forward to the final reveal.
