Black horses are by far my fave colour to clip, the colour contrast from clipped to unclipped makes for the most crisp looking lines 💕

More to come this week, maybe some better photos too😅

A special shout out to Welsh D Harry sporting a short Irish first clip of the year this time, we will be going further back on his belly next time. He has a post of his own a few posts down explaining his desensitisation journey last winter.

What a fabulous few days at Hickstead last week! All 3 horses really settled into the Hickstead groove again as the days went on, Friday and Saturday especially, with double clears all round🤩

Super greatful to be a part of such a wonderful team of horses and people ❤️

Balgaddy Blue doing the 1m, 1.05m and a 1m10

Go Fly doing 1m10 and 1m20

Millfield Constanza doing 1m20 and 1m25

It was such a blast and extra special for the newest partnership of Blythe Britton 's Oakley (Millfield Constanza), who have been a partnership for only 6 months, produced a beautiful double clear in the 1m25 on Saturday afternoon. Very excited to continue to watch these two on their journey together!

Here's to the next! 🎉

Successful exposure experiences for this young gelding this winter!
A long post!

Harry has been challenging to say the least and we've had to think outside the box to support him and stay safe when handling him. The first photo is from today, which I believe was session 8 since October where we have slowly built his threshold from zero to this!

Session no.1 with Harry was rather unconventional, he came across very stranger shy towards me and is a very reactive horse anyway so his owner and I quickly realised that we needed to move outside to the arena (his learning space) to keep ourselves safe and think outside the box. We began the session by walking around the arena with harry following behind me and the clippers turned off. He was very weary! And by the end of the session he coped well with the clippers gently waving around his shoulders whilst on. It was clear it was going to be a slow and long process but fortunately Harry's owner expected this!

Session 2 was much the same, but he let me rub the clippers over his neck and chest and take a small strip of hair off his chest.
Through sessions 3 and 4 we had chipped enough away to get to a bib clip, he was comfortable enough for front leg lines and just between the front legs- we were starting to get somewhere! I find that session 4 with a horse is when they really begin to trust and can be pushed slightly!

Session 5 in December we moved down to clipping the girth area.

No.6 we took the leap and tried his chin, as I felt that I could read him well and that he could cope. He absolutely took this in his stride so he had a half face just missing the top triangle by his ears. That was to be tackled another day.

Session 7 was chipping away at more tummy hair getting to about half way back.

And then the finale today! Harry has been an incredibly rewarding horse to work with. The first time the clippers turned on near him I wondered how the hell I'd figure this out 😂 but looking at how far he's come and knowing he's being set up for success with such positive experiences makes the time all worth it!
