I never woukd have discovered the joys of seeing an amateur dramatics group if I hadn’t moved to Devon!

Huge shout out to the Dunsford amateur dramatics society for their brilliant pantomime- Aladdin.

My 2026 will be full of saying yes to trying things for the first time and which bring joy - so thankful to be in a place that allows me to do that!

1st sourdough loaf made ✅️
Epic fail! ✅️

I wasn't sure what to expect with my first loaf, I mean the starter seems to be doing well.

I think I overworked the dough 🤔 So now I've ordered one of those bread scraper thingeys and a proper proving basket .... maybe that will help 🤣

Let me know if you're a sourdough pro and if you have any tips for me!

I needed this!

After months of being unable to paint while we had our barn made usable, I am back on it!

A refresh of my milk churn that I first did in 2014! It lasted so well, but now a touch of verdis gris and rust effect and it suits the age of the barn IMO!!!

I used a dark base to create a bronzey look with added for texture and for paint to grab onto.
A range of watered down colours, water mister and then wax look decorators varnish.

Let's see if it stands the test of winter!

Sometimes following instructions doesn't always pay off!

I tried wiping the excess wood stain off with a flat sponge as the instructions said.

I was staining the inside of a t.v unit and got little 'lift off' marks around the edges 😭, so all I could think of doing was using a dry brush, but an angled one to do it. It worked!

I was applying the stain to veneered chipboard so there was no grain to help me. Not sure if that made a difference or not 🤔

Sometimes you just have to find a way that works for you!

Having said that, wood stain is lovely to use. Their teak colour against - Midnight Blue is a stunning combo

If you’ve got a magic hack for staining awkward cubby hole areas let me know in the comments- help a girl out!

There’s something magical about second-hand furniture— it’s not just furniture, it’s the history you get to carry into your home!

I haven’t bought a brand-new piece of furniture since 2014! And I’ll keep hunting for second-hand pieces I love as we decorate our new home (not that we need much).

Older furniture has so much character. It’s built to last, and you can repurpose it again and again to create the look you want.

So why settle for mass-produced pieces that fall apart in a few years, when you could have something unique, full of history, and perfect for you? It’s second hand September so now’s a great time to get the bug for giving furniture another chance!

Would you choose second hand if it meant you could make your home more unique? I’d love to know!

The reality of running a furniture painting business from home

Before moving, I was so proud to have a perfect workshop…

Now, I’ve got a patched-up barn that’s seen better days. It’s full of character, screams vintage – and I love it!

Winter will be a challenge (electrics, please be good for me! 🙏), the lighting needs upgrading, and staying warm is going to be interesting… but I can’t wait to get back to painting again!

I’ll never be the “picture-perfect” that everyone strives for on social media, and I’m fine with that – so I’m just doing me, making it work the best I can with what I’ve got.

Is it just me, or do you find that creating for social media gets in the way of the thing you actually love doing?
Let me know in the comments!

How I’ll be escaping the Grey and Bringing Back Cosy Vibes

As we all know, grey was a massive trend. And I hold my hands up, I went in with all guns blazing!

Grey bed, grey curtains, grey walls, and I painted every bit of furniture grey Basically colourless!!!

Is it just me, or have you ever seen an item of clothing or a pair of shoes you had to have? You loved them from the minute you laid eyes on them. You couldn’t stop thinking about them. So you bought them… and then, a year later, you look at them and think: "Ugh. How did I ever like that?!"

That’s exactly how I feel about grey.
Back then, it felt modern and fresh. Now, I just want it gone!

It’s the bed that is causing difficulties, it wasn’t cheap, it's sooo comfy and yet it is grey and there is no way it will be replaced!

But here’s what I’ll be doing in the bedroom:
✨ Repainting the furniture, changing the colour of the walls in this new to us house
✨ Getting more cushions, a throw and lighting that compliments the makeover when I do it.
✨ Bringing some of the outside in, with warm colours - Right now, I’m loving the idea of a soft terracotta for the walls and a rich rust colour in some way on the furniture, but I’ve only been in the house 2 weeks so far so I want to make sure it will be right

For now, I’m keeping it simple—with a beautiful cushion of autumnal colours to break up the sea of grey. Next, I’ll be buying warm neutral paint testers for the walls ……

If you love a trend, go for it—but if you take anything from my mistake, it’s this:

Keep the big, pricey bits timeless. Your future self will thank you when the style shifts and you don’t have to incorporate them into it!!!

Let me know if you’ve ever regretted going all in on a trend of any kind, what happened and what did you do to fix it? Let’s get a conversation going!

Selling and buying a house is a learning curve, and not always a fun one, if you’ve ever sold a house—or are even thinking about it—you’ll want to hear this.

Let’s just say it hasn’t exactly been smooth sailing… and I’ve learnt a few things the hard (and frustrating) way 😤

Things like:

👉 Not all “cash buyers” are what they seem
👉 Sales progressors - can do a great job of keeping your file at the bottom of the pile, unless you stay on top of them
👉 Cheap online conveyancers might cost you your sanity
👉 And check for neighbour disputes… trust me on this one!

It’s been a journey, and while I can laugh about it now, I wanted to share a few hard-won lessons so you don’t get caught out.

Whether you’re moving soon or might be one day, save this post—you’ll thank me later.
