Making rough prototypes of design ideas is a great way to stretch those creative muscles without the pressure of using expensive materials or trying to achieve a perfect finish. As a creative, it is SO important to schedule some time to play around with new ideas without worrying about productivity.

Maybe it needs some adjustment, but I quite like how this prototype turned out… What do you think? Is it good enough to make a “real” version using some nice wood or should I go back to the drawing board? 🤔

Sometimes you really can’t beat an oil finish 👌🏻. I finished this mid century modern style side table with Tung oil, followed up with two coats of my home brewed wood wax. It brings out the colour and texture of the grain so much more deeply and still feels natural to the touch. It’s absolutely worth the extra curing time for this gorgeous reclaimed teak 😍

Snow outside and -3°C inside the workshop isn’t the welcome to 2026 I was expecting 😭🥶 Stay strong everyone who is back to work today 💪🏻

These Walnut and Figured Cherry wall lamps are still available for sale. They were two of my favourite pieces at the Christmas market but sadly didn’t find their forever homes 😔. They’re a beautifully elegant way to bring warmth and texture to any room with dimmable warm-white LEDs that plug into an ordinary 3 pin wall socket. If you’d like to give one a home in time for Christmas then drop me a message 👍🏻

You didn’t think moving 200 miles away would stop me, did you? 😉 This weekend I’ll be crossing the border to trade at my favourite market of the year! 🥳 I’ll be there Friday AND Saturday with a bunch of new designs, as well as some classics. Sunny Bank Mills really go all out on this event to bring you an incredible selection of makers and artists, so don’t miss out if you’re looking for some unique gifts this Christmas.

I’m really excited about the furniture and homeware pieces I’ve made for this market, some of which I’ve wanted to try for years. This is the only event I’ve traded at all year so I hope you can come along and make it feel special 😊. It will be so nice to see some familiar faces!

This bespoke solid Ash dining table folds conveniently in half to become a striking side table. It’s finished with “Antique” tinted hardwax oil so the rich colour blends beautifully with the exisitng oak doors and furniture around the room.

I’ve been taking my time with this comisssion because it’s actually for my parent’s home 😊. I’m really happy with the results and thankfully so are they. The hand cut joinery, locally grown timber and high quality hardware mean this piece will no doubt become a family heirloom.

After years of frustration at the lack of transparency in wood finish ingredients, I decided to take matters into my own hands. Introducing Wood Wax: an all natural, food safe, vegan friendly wood finishing polish. Every ingredient is in black and white on the back of the tin. You won’t find any harsh chemicals or hidden petroleum products, just plant based oils and waxes used by artisans for hundreds of years. Wood Wax is durable, versatile and easy to apply. It’s perfect for cutting boards, cooking utensils and furniture alike. It also smells amazing!

I’ve been developing this for a really long time, local makers have been testing it for months and I’ve used it on nearly everything I’ve built this year. I’m super excited to hear your thoughts so head over to my website if you’d like to buy a tin. It’s a simple product with a focus on sustainability that doesn’t compromise on quality or ease of use. It’s just bloody brilliant stuff! If it proves popular then I’d love to develop more natural finishes and sell this in larger sizes. Let me know your thoughts, find out more at retunedwood.com
