I’m excited about this event tomorrow. It’s always good to go back and look at projects that are completed…. The design process, collaboration with client and delivery team, then see how the building is performing in reality…. Technically and from the human and community perspective. We will also be considering the wider agenda for passivhaus and eco building and how the industry has developed. If only we had a crystal ball for the future but some pontificating on that may creep in too with Jeff’s encyclopaedic knowledge. Please join us.

We’ve taken a break from socials for a few months and have been working away, with buildings transforming from the drawing board to reality. Today was the first stage airtest of a new ‘passivhaus plus’ house, and the contractor achieved a fantastic 0.15ACH result. This is truly excellent, and not only allows the client to save money during the lifetime of the building, but during construction too as the same comfort is achieved with fewer layers of insulation. (It’s still very well insulated) Standard construction has an acceptable range of airtightness which is 20-33 times draftier! And, now the windows are in and the sun out, the views are looking fabulous from the huge windows, and the sunlight is streaming in. Everyone left site today feeling proud of their work done. Broatch Construction, Ochils Joinery, Thermal Image Scotland and the whole design team working together. And most importantly, happy clients.

It must be the season! We are particularly pleased to be finalists for this award as it recognises an approach to design that is close to our hearts. Championing healthy, high performing buildings that minimise environmental impact.

This is a one-off awards, as a collaboration between The Passivhaus Trust and the Alliance for Sustainable Building Products, celebrating the Sustainable Development Foundation's 20th anniversary.

There are some very inspiring projects in the shortlist, and congratulations to everyone involved in this project, as well as all of the other finalists.

Back to school this week. As visiting critic this time in mid term reviews. A time for discussion and ideas. Such a joy to work with a great bunch of students. Projects based in Scotland include tidal pools, a ferry terminal, repurposing oil rigs, glamorous harbour toilet and showerblock (an underrated typology that deserves much greater architectural attention) and refugee accommodation amongst other ideas. Fabulous to see models and some amazingly evocative concept sketches from students originating from all over the globe. Based at the Royal Danish Academy architecture school and a great welcome from the staff - great to see you again. Thanks. More work to peruse tomorrow too. .

We are delighted to be shortlisted in the National architecture awards (RIAS) for The Seed Cohousing project near Dundee. There’s some great projects on the 21 strong shortlist across Scotland.
