There’s a certain kind of magic that happens in the quiet of the workshop when it’s just me, the timber, and a very sharp chisel. You see this joint? This is where the soul of the piece really lives. No nails, no screws: just a perfect fit that’s been sorted out with a bit of patience and a steady hand.

It’s easy to rush, but wood has a way of telling you when you’re moving too fast. If you don't listen, you'll end up with a gap that'll haunt your dreams. Getting this beauty to slot together perfectly is what keeps me coming back to the bench. It’s my happy place, honestly. It’s about that tactile connection: the smell of freshly cut oak and the feeling of a clean shave across the grain.

Every piece we send out has these little secrets tucked away inside its skeleton. It’s not just a table or a stand; it’s a bit of skin in the game. We don't do shortcuts here, just honest craft that’s built to last longer than we are.

What’s a small detail in your own home that makes you stop and appreciate the craftsmanship?

There’s something properly satisfying about that ‘clunk’ when a tenon finds its home. No nails, no screws, just precision, patience, and a bit of soul.

Crikey, it’s not the easiest way to build furniture, but it’s definitely the right way. This baby relies on traditional joinery that’s been around for centuries, ensuring it stays sturdy for generations rather than just seasons. There’s no hiding behind wood filler or metal brackets here; every joint has to be spot on or the whole thing simply won't hold.

We’re obsessed with these details because that’s where the story lives. Seeing the grain flow perfectly from one piece to the next without a single nail head in sight? That’s my happy place. It’s all about creating furniture that’s properly sorted from the inside out.

I’ve been in the workshop perfecting this joint for a new Sly Rise batch: the rhythm of the chisel is the best therapy there is. 🛠️

What’s a detail in your home you’re particularly proud of? Or if you’re a fellow maker, what’s your favorite timber to work with? Drop a comment and let’s chat shop.

Right then, coffee’s down and the workshop’s calling. There’s something about that first bit of sunlight hitting the sawdust that just feels proper, isn’t it?

Mornings here at Crafty Mr Todd are less about spreadsheets and more about the soul of the wood. Today’s agenda? Getting stuck into a new bespoke Sly Rise. No nails, no shortcuts: just traditional joinery and a bit of elbow grease to make sure every joint sits flush.

It’s messy, it’s loud, and honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way. By the time the mid-morning brew rolls around, my digits are covered in shavings and there’s a new beauty starting to take shape on the bench.

The workshop is my happy place, where creation happens before the world fully wakes up. It’s not just about making furniture; it’s about the craft, the challenge, and that distinct scent of fresh oak.

How do you lot start your day? Coffee first, or straight into the thick of it?

It’s funny how a rough stack of oak planks can look like a whole lot of nothing to most, but to us, it’s the start of a marathon. 🛠️

The Sly Rise didn’t just appear out of thin air. It took 1.5 years of R&D, plenty of "back to the drawing board" moments, and more sawdust than I care to admit to get this baby right. No nails, no shortcuts: just traditional joinery and a bit of grit. 🪵

There’s something special about furniture that’s built to outlive us, isn’t there? We put our heart into every detail, because that’s what makes it a Sly Rise. Which part of the craft do you find most fascinating? The raw start or the final reveal? Let us know below! 👇

Nothing beats the feeling of seeing one of our beauties out in the wild. This Sly Stance has finally found its forever home, and crikey, doesn’t it look a treat?

We spend weeks in the workshop: muffs on, tea in hand: faffing over every joint and grain until it's just right. No nails, no shortcuts, just honest-to-goodness joinery that’s built to last a lifetime. Seeing it sorted and styled so beautifully by one of our own is why we do what we do. It’s not just a table anymore; it’s part of the family furniture.

Our customer mentioned it’s already become the 'happy place' for their morning coffee and daily sketches. That’s the dream, isn't it? Something that works as hard as you do but looks good doing it.

Huge thanks for sharing this snap with us. It really gets the digits tingling for the next build!

How would you style your Sly Stance? Let us know in the comments.
