Designing a beautiful piece is only part of the story, as timber plays a critical role in that.

From how it reacts to its environment, to how it is cut and finished, every decision influences the final outcome.

For example, certain timbers can warp, discolour or react to fittings if not specified correctly. Others are chosen not just for appearance, but for their consistency, workability and long-term performance.

This is where experience matters.

At N.E.J. Stevenson, timber selection is part of a considered process, working closely with interior designers to ensure the material supports both the design intent and the practical realities of the space.

For this particular commission, the boxes were veneered in Pomelle Sapele with a hand burnished full, high gloss finish.
