Instagram: The Countryside Alliance is known for its lobbying and campaigning work on wildlife and management, but its agenda is far broader than that, incorporating food & farming, local businesses and services, and the injustices of poor mobile phone signal and broadband in the countryside. The Countryside Alliance was formed in 1997 when the British Fie

ld Sports Society, the Countryside Movement and the Countryside Business Group the Alliance amalgamated. We are known for having arranged several pro-countryside marches and rallies including the Hyde Park Rally on 10 July 1997, the Countryside March on 1 March 1998 (360,000 people) and the Liberty & Livelihood March on 22 September 2002 (407,791 people). These demonstrations were held to support fieldsports in response to a newly elected Labour Government that was hostile. The wrangling over fieldsports continued for many years resulting in the failed and discredited Hunting Act 2004. We work tirelessly to promote and protect hunting and shooting interests, and our work for fishing includes Countryside Alliance Foundation projects; Fishing for Schools and Casting for Recovery UK & Ireland. Although country sports remain on the frontline of our campaigns, we are anything but single issue. Our campaigns on broadband, mobile phone signal, fly tipping, affordable housing, food & farming and rural business (through the Countryside Alliance Awards) show that we represent the interests of those who love the British countryside, regardless of who or where they are. With around 100,000 members and supporters, the Countryside Alliance promotes and protects rural life at Parliament, in the media and on the ground. Join us at www.countryside-alliance.org

🚨A ‘stop the war on the countryside’ van descended on Parliament today…we’ve had a big response to our e-lobby.

It’s clear people are sick and tired of the toxic culture war on the countryside.

Rural communities need the government to start legislating for them, not against them.

Who spotted Countryside Alliance President, Ann Mallalieu, on Clarkson’s Farm? We are proud to stand with our farmers. We must protect them and the rural way of life! 💪

‘Britons must eat less meat and dairy’: no thank you Mr. Miliband! The UK has some of the most sustainable farming practises in the world. Be proud of that, don’t make life harder for our livestock farmers.

Have you had your say on what British wildlife you want to see on the Bank of England's next notes?

Contenders such as the fox, hare and salmon are Countryside Alliance favourites - but with great alternatives such as the curlew it's hard to choose!

"Whoever is in charge of the Labour Party when the music stops needs to deliver the change that was promised in 2024. A change from the arrogant assumption that government knows what is best for the countryside" writes Tim Bonner for the Telegraph.

It’s becoming clear to everybody that the government is wasting time pursuing a toxic culture war on the countryside. The trail hunting ban is not a priority.

Hear from 3 politicians from 3 different parties arguing the government has got its priorities totally wrong.

For many people, trail hunting is about far more than following hounds across the countryside.

In this video, we hear from a farmer and a lifelong rider who has hunted all her life. She shares how trail hunting has become a vital part of her community, bringing people together through a shared passion for horses, the countryside, and rural traditions.

She speaks openly about the positive impact trail hunting has on her mental health and wellbeing. The friendships, support network, and sense of belonging it provides help combat isolation and create meaningful social connections that extend far beyond the hunting field.

Whether you're involved yourself or simply interested in understanding why so many people value these activities, this is a powerful reminder of the importance of community, connection, and spending time outdoors.

Amazing work Countryside Alliance Ireland. Leading the way, fighting for rural people: “bad proposals that harm our countryside must always be challenged robustly”⬇️

Plans to raise Northern Ireland firearm certificate fees by more than 150% have been dropped after strong opposition from rural campaigners.

The ban on trail hunting is an attack on rural people. Livelihoods are at stake. Yet the government persists with a culture war on the countryside.

Jobs will be lost, businesses will suffer. That was the message from hunt staff and rural people in North Yorkshire.

“Research consistently shows that magpies are opportunistic predators that take eggs, nestlings and small birds, particularly impacting songbirds during the breeding season.

“For farmland and woodland bird populations to recover, we both have to improve habitat and reduce predation.”

“UK magpies’ numbers doubled in the 20 years up to 1990, but the widespread adoption of trapping halted population growth and has kept numbers under control since.”

Tim Bonner, our chief executive, argues a crackdown on magpie trapping will harm vulnerable songbirds⬇️

Rural campaigners say sweeping ban could trigger 50pc collapse in struggling bird populations

The RSPB's latest report is yet another example of the group pursuing its anti-shooting agenda.

Rather than relentlessly attacking game shooting, the RSPB should be welcoming the £500m worth of conservation work and £3.3bn that it contributes each year.

Livery yards are just one of the many rural businesses that could be seriously affected by a potential trail hunting ban.

For many yards, hunts provide vital income and help support jobs, horse welfare, farriers, feed suppliers, transport companies, and countless other small businesses connected to rural life.

This isn’t just about one activity - it’s about protecting an entire community and way of life.

Stand with us and help protect rural businesses by signing the e-lobby today. Your support matters. 🐴🇬🇧 https://www.countryside-alliance.org/trail-hunting-consultation-2026
