Michael, a time served metalworker and blacksmith, specialises in handcrafting gates, railings and other decorative metalwork. His business partner, Elizabeth, an antique and modern furniture restorer undertakes all aspects of restoration work. Michael and Elizabeth also produce handmade pure beeswax polish with turpentine which is ideal for maintaining the finish on both antique and modern furnit
ure. Many people consider blacksmithing and furniture restoration to be an unusual combination. However, the two sides of the business actually complement each other and traditionally the furniture restorer and the blacksmith worked hand in hand. When restoring antique furniture it is sometimes necessary to replace old nails. In this situation new nails would look out of place so replica handcrafted nails have to be forged using traditional techniques. Likewise, when restoring cast iron bench ends it is necessary to renew the wooden seat and back struts. Due to our woodworking skills this process can be carried out in house.
