On Friday I traveled 2.5 hours to a Bovis Homes site in Oxfordshire to get my teeth stuck into this huge roof ! Will be there for next several weeks

After 11 years working as a site manager, I’ve finally decided to go back to where it all began 21 years ago, and re-establish myself as a carpenter and joiner once again.

Many people have sniggered and commented things such as “failed manager” or “couldn’t hack it” … it’s not so much I’ve failed .. it’s more that I’ve been failed, countless amounts of times.

Over the past few weeks, I have been installing staircases, building stud work, installing window boards. Not once have I had to re-learn, re-remember or question myself or my ability.

I am back doing a job that I love. Working for a company that wants to support me and help me along the way.

Despite working 6-7 days a week / 12-16 hours a day .. I feel free again, from the constraints of a shirt and tie, programming deadlines and hitting CML’s

None of this would be possible without the love and support from my wife. This decision was a risky one, an expensive one - she stands by me and just wants me to be happy with work. I can say now, regarding work, I’ve never been happier.
