☀️ HEATWAVE #5 IS ON ITS WAY! Is your furniture ready?

We think about keeping ourselves cool in extreme heat — but what about our furniture? High temperatures, strong sunlight and changes in humidity can take their toll on natural wood, causing fading, drying, movement and, over time, cracking or warping.

Here are 5 simple ways to help protect your furniture during the heatwave:

1. Keep wood out of direct sunlight
Close blinds or curtains during the hottest, sunniest part of the day, especially where sunlight falls directly onto wooden tables, cabinets and other furniture.

2. Avoid sudden temperature changes
Wood naturally reacts to changes in temperature and humidity. Try to keep the environment around your furniture as stable as possible.

3. Protect dining & coffee tables
Use coasters, placemats and trivets — especially for hot plates, mugs and serving dishes. Never place very hot items directly onto a wooden surface.

4. Look after upholstery too
Strong sunlight can fade fabrics over time. If your sofa or chair sits in a particularly sunny spot, use blinds or curtains to reduce prolonged exposure.

5. Don’t forget outdoor furniture
Give wooden garden furniture some shade where possible and use suitable protective covers when it’s not being used. Prolonged exposure to intense sun can contribute to fading, drying and weathering.

A little extra care during extreme weather can help keep the furniture you love looking beautiful for years to come.

It's probably the phrase we hear most often from first-time visitors to our showroom!

Did you know our Kayu Home showroom is based at our sister company, Shimu, in Greengates, Bradford? Tucked away just off the main road, it's a hidden gem full of beautiful reclaimed furniture, vintage treasures and unique home accessories, all waiting to be discovered.

From antique Chinese cabinets and handcrafted Indian furniture to decorative accessories and one-of-a-kind statement pieces, there's so much more to see than you can experience online.

The best part? There's ample free parking right outside, so you can take your time browsing. And if you fancy making a morning or afternoon of it, there are some lovely cafés nearby where you can stop for a coffee and a bite to eat.
