Although like many microbusinesses we’ve been quite quiet on the social media front - plenty of activity has been taking place in 2020 for Maybee. We moved into our new studio at The Old Print Works late 2019, getting it set up and decorated and ready to roll just as the first talks of likely lockdown were beginning to circulate in Feb 2020.
In quarantine just before the lockdown, we made the hard decision to temporarily close to new work in March.
We’ve been slowly reopening again, and the first post lockdown completed project went to her forever home today. This old lady was affectionately named Miss Havisham after the Great Expectations character (scroll through to see her before state). She was layered in 4 layers of upholstery with the original silk cover dating from mid or earlier last century. Much tender loving care, 100’s of old tacks and a honeycomb of holes to fill; she has been fully rebuilt, painted in Cornish Milk Mineral Paint and hand upholstered with a vibrant Misprint Fabric set off by sumptuous velvet piping from the Passione range from Modelli Fabrics.

The Maybee instagram has been a little quiet recently.... moving to a new workshop is a mammoth task!
However work continues and the Renovation of some lovely old chairs side of our work has been really busy - planning for the launch of the new workshop & some new patterns for our bespoke range on the way!
Currently have a beautiful Ercol chair being reloved; including the careful clean of gaffer tape residue (Marseille Black Soap is a wonder... the secret cleaning ingredient for most anything and still made to it’s historical recipe). Also a lovely old lady with 4 layers of old upholstery and very honeycombed wood from the plethora of tacks & nails.
