Saint-Hilaire-du-Harcouët

Saint-Hilaire-du-Harcouët is in the Manche region of Normandy (50) and is approximately 25 kilometres South West of our base, here in Sourdeval.

It is a bustling market town (every Wednesday) with all the major supermarkets, independent shops, schools, swimming pool, cinema and a beautiful park to walk around with a picture perfect lake. In the summer, there are inflatables for the children to play on as well.

Saint Hilaire is probably best know for La Foire Saint Martin which is held on the first weekend of November every year. This goes on for 4 days (with the funfair going on for 2 weeks) and hosts approximately 800 stalls which range from furniture, clothes, food and so much more! It is, in fact, the oldest fair in the region and records show it has been in existence since 1323. It is the fair that closes all fairs in the Manche region and people come from far and wide to visit.

It is a great day out (or you could stretch it over a few days) and the kids will love it too!

St Hilaire is also very close to the theme park, Ange Michel, which is suitable for all ages.

This amusement park is also in the Manche region of France, Saint-Martin-De-Landelles, to be exact. The journey to the park, as you draw nearer, is typically scenic as you wind down the French country roads. So much so, that you may at some point question your SatNav’s ability but bear with – as you are going in the right direction. You will come across Parc Ange Michel by arriving in an unassuming field.

There is an assortment of rides which cater to all ages – even the older ones. Everyone seems to enjoy the inflatable power boats and the swimming splash/slide area at no additional costs. So be sure to bring costumes and towels. There are rollercoasters, bouncy castles, swinging high chairs, pony rides, go karting (an extra charge for over 14s), trampolines, mini train that takes you all around the park, animals, laser shooting, slides and lots more.

There’s also a quiet little chapel just snuck around the corner from the splash park area. The whole park feels like it’s in the middle of nowhere (as it is!) and has a wonderful outlook to the surrounding countryside.

There are plenty of eateries and snack stations and a restaurant. But you can bring a picnic if you so wish.

The park itself is very hilly, so if walking is a problem, you will need to get the little mini train to get you to the top/bottom of the park.
