Let me be clear, we are living in a time of chaos, where divisive rhetoric and fear-mongering have become the norm rather than the exception. Today, I couldn't hold my tongue anymore. To all of you who engage in disparaging conversations about 'the lesser than' or frame immigrants as a problem rather than part of the fabric of our society, I urge you to reconsider. Let me remind you of what America looked like before any concept of 'ownership' took root—a land teeming with diverse cultures and peoples long before someone on a boat decided that the land was beautiful and should belong to them. It's easy to forget that the very foundation of this nation was built on waves of migration from all corners of the globe.Reflect for a moment on your family history. If your lineage doesn't align with the faces in the iconic photographs of early American settlers, then one way or another, you are part of the immigrant narrative. This shared history is not something to be ashamed of; rather, it should be a point of pride. Each wave of newcomers has contributed to the rich tapestry of this country, bringing unique perspectives, traditions, and resilience. So let that sink in: as we navigate the chaos of our current climate—marked by anger, anxiety, and division—we must recognize our interconnectedness. It’s time to shift the conversation and embrace compassion, understanding, and a collective acknowledgment of our shared humanity. Only then can we begin to heal the fractures within our society.
