🌅 To finish the week here is the story of the photoshoot trip in south Portugal by Jeroen Gerritsen.

"January 2026, my wife Lisette and I headed to Portugal to test the new 2026 GA kites. Our road trip took us along the coast, hitting some of the best spots in the country.

First stop: Alvor, one of the most famous spots in the south of the Algarve. Lagoa de Alvor is a massive lagoon where you can rig up on both the south and west sides. You’ll find buttery flat water, though it’s tide-dependent. At low tide, sandbanks emerge, perfect for a freestyle session! It was the ideal place to test the new Gaastra Max. We brought a 9 and 12m2, and were treated with around 20 knots. This kite delivers serious hangtime, making it effortless to float right over those sandbanks.

After a few days, we drove 3 hours up north and visited another GA rider at his kite center in Lagoa de Albufeira, which is just south from Lisbon. We planned a photoshoot on Obidos, roughly a 1,5 hour drive from Lisbon. Rui will join us there.

Next stop: Óbidos. The conditions were raw: 8 degrees with an icy, gusty wind. But the lagoon looked amazing. Óbidos is huge, probably double the size of Alvor, with a wide river mouth and plenty of inlets for freestyling, carving, and freeriding. We (Lisette, Rui and I) pumped up the new 2026 One and Spark. Despite the weather conditions, the kites felt rock solid and gave us the confidence to push it.

After two epic days on the water, we’re hitting the road again...

Team Focus : Juanamari GONZALEZ 🇪🇸 🌸

🏄 Hello Juanamari, where are you from and how long have you been practicing kitesurfing?
- Hi! I'm Juanamari from Tarifa, Spain, and I’ve been kitesurfing since 2013.

😎 How long have you been using Gaastra equipment?
- I started riding Gaastra gear in 2018. It was actually the equipment I chose to use long before the team even knew me. I simply loved the performance.

👌 What is your favorite board or kite?
- My heart is divided between the Pure and the Spark kites. I love them because they are fast, have a great wind range, and their colors and designs really stand out in the sky, making me feel unique on the water every time I ride.
My board of choice is the Watts. It’s incredibly comfortable, allows me to go upwind really well, and on top of that it’s beautiful.

💜 What is your best memory (session, trip, etc.)?
- I’ve had many epic sessions over the years, especially during the spectacular sunsets in Tarifa. But the most unforgettable moment happened spontaneously in Zanzibar: riding near the reef about 1.5 km from the shore with a walkie-talkie in my helmet, while the person on the beach was talking to me through it. Some local kids gathered around that person and, completely spontaneously, started singing Hakuna Matata to me as the sun was setting behind the coconut trees along the beach. It was without a doubt one of the most special moments I’ve ever had on the water and something I will never forget.
