Today is The day.

Launch of DANISH MODERN at danishmodern.com

Our first piece relaunched is chosen for a specific reason. Z Chair became the iconic symbol of Danish Modern in the United States during the 1950s and 1960s. The chair sums up everything Mid-century modern and Danish design is about. The values of great craftmanship, playfulness, comfort, functionality and affection to details. The poetry of an object turning into art.

People often say, always start building something with a cornerstone. We have chosen one with great importance in design history. Z Chair is more than a piece of furniture. It is our legacy.

Z Chair is DANISH MODERN.

DANISH MODERN is a production made in collaboration with Danish Modern Museum.

Official launch / 21.05.2022.

Our purpose is to relaunch furniture from the same high standard as the iconic originals. DANISH MODERN focuses on quality over costs and therefore does not outsource abroad.

All made in Denmark

Danish Modern is an era that defined an essential chapter in design history. Denmark was placed on the world map for its groundbreaking craftsmanship and mid-century modern furniture.

DANISH MODERN is established for one reason. We want to cherish the cabinetmaker's craftsmanship and celebrate the designer's legacy. If we place all future production abroad, who is left to pass on the craftmanship from one generation to the next?

Danish Modern is a production done in collaboration with Danish Modern Museum. The purpose is to make design legacy and danish craftmanship come together in a relaunch of scandinavian design icons.

Danish Modern Museum brings back life to some of these designs with same philosophy and same high quality as they were once made. All made in Denmark by the best and most skilled craftmen around, each chosen for their induvidual expertise.

Designer Erik Severin Risager – Hansen pasted away earlier this year, but fortunately his design-legacy goes on.
A relaunch of his iconic desk in 2021 is a beginning.

Severin Hansen first attracted wider attention with the geometric forms of his furniture in the 1950s.

In the following years Severin Hansen created few but very beutiful designs.

The most iconic piece by his hand is a desk designed in 1958. The simplicity in the construction highlights the cabinetmakers craftmanship as well as an industrial mindset.
It was for a good reason, her majesty, the queen of Denmark chose the desk as a personal gift for her 18 years birthday at the Cabinetmakers Guild Exhibition same year.

Why not let Severin Hansen tell you the story himself.

Lasse H. Andersen

My name is Lasse Andersen and I am founder of Danish Modern Museum.

Many years ago I asked myself, who is documenting Danish Modern, the designers and their work?

Unfortunately, I didn’t find a clear answer. In just a few years, all of the earliest employees, their close family and business partners are gone and invaluable knowledge will be lost for posterity.
There are details and stories that should have been documented 30 years ago when the designers, the furnituremakers and the cabinetmakers who carried out the furniture still lived.
Therefore, I decided 15 years ago to start my project regarding the complete works of several Danish modern designers, as it surprised me that neither Danish nor international museums worked intensively on the matter.
Danish Modern Museum is therefore the result of intense search for rare furniture, people, literature and documentation during the years. It is a concept with the vision of making international exhibitions around the world. All presented as Danish Modern Museum.

Today is ”launcing” day, so please have a look at the new Danish Modern Museum website and should you for some reason like what you see please consider to give it a like, a comment on facebook, a follow on instagram, a share on linkedin or just a heads up to a good friend interested in Danish Modern furniture and design.

It would mean the world to me.

During 2019 several things will be announced. Please follow social media for updates regarding opening of online museum shop, the first releases of designers archives, first issue of Danish Modern Magazine and hopefully some pop up exhibitions.

I wish you all a merry christmas.

Sincerly,

Lasse

A few years back a good friend of Danish Modern Museum asked for help regarding documentation for an interesting sofa of his. The designer was unknown and the condition was so and so. It was in old orange fabric and needed new upholstery. The million dollar question was if it was worth doing so?
The answer was YES.
The extremly rare sofa is designed by Finn Juhl in 1945 and presented as part of a set with his "dream Coffee Table" and the FJ 45 at the Cabinetmakers guild Exhibition (by Niels Vodder). It is probably an "one of sofa" and on thursday the sofa Will get a new owner. The sofa has Been brought back to its original Colours (made from some small samples of the old original fabric), and is ready for a new "home" since it is going up for auction at .
Good luck to both the seller, the auctionhouse and the upcoming owner of the sofa.
