UnionPay and Bluecode to Explore Mobile Payment Interoperability
Excited to share a major milestone from the 2025 UnionPay Global Partners Conference!
On 28th November, UnionPay International signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bluecode, a pan-European mobile payment solution, to explore Mobile Payment Interoperability between their systems.
Based on the concept of Payment Roaming, Bluecode already connects European users with millions of merchants and is a founding member of EMPSA, playing a key role in advancing European mobile payment interoperability.
💳 UnionPay and Bluecode will be exploring:
• Bluecode users to pay across UnionPay’s global acceptance network, including in China.
• UnionPay-partner wallets to gain access to Bluecode’s merchant network.
• Deeper interoperability across EMPSA member payment systems, leveraging Bluecode’s Payment Interoperability Hub.
The MoU was signed by James Yang, EVP UnionPay European Region, and Dr. Christian Pirkner, CEO, Blue Code International AG — marking an important step toward expanding user choice and accelerating cross-border mobile payment connectivity.

On November 28, 11 cross-border payment cooperation documents were signed in Shanghai, China, between UnionPay and 11 major institutions, including the Bank of China, PayNet (Malaysia), Uzcard (Uzbekistan), HUMO (Uzbekistan), IPC (Kyrgyzstan), Hong Leong Bank (Malaysia), OCBC Bank (Singapore), Banco do Brasil (Brazil), FonePay (Nepal), and Bluecode (Austria).
These signings were key achievements of the UnionPay Global Partners Conference 2025 – Innovations in Open Payments: Sharing Success in Payment Connectivity. The event gathered representatives from 72 organizations worldwide, including central banks, commercial banks, and payment institutions to witness a broader range of achievements.

The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between UnionPay International Singapore and DBS represents a significant advancement in the realm of cross-border payment solutions. This partnership initiates several strategic initiatives, including the capability for DBS PayLah! users to seamlessly scan WeChat QR codes for payments while in China. Furthermore, it aims to enhance the existing privileges associated with DBS Unionpay debit card via the SplendorPlus campaign and to expand the acquiring business by leveraging the extensive DBS merchant network. These collaborative efforts are poised to enhance payment convenience for UnionPay customers in Singapore, thereby contributing to the fortification of the cross-border payment ecosystem.
