Telecommunications data center applications

Raised floors available for general purpose use typically do not address the special requirements needed for telecommunications applications.
The general types of raised floors in telecommunications data centers include: stringerless, stringered, and structural platforms; and, truss assemblies.
Stringerless raised floors — an array of pedestals that provide the necessary height for routing cables and also serve to support each corner of the floor panels.
Stringered raised floors — a vertical array of steel pedestal assemblies (steel base plate, tubular upright, and a head) uniformly spaced on 2-foot centers and mechanically fastened to the concrete floor.
Structural platforms — members constructed of steel angles or channels that are welded or bolted together to form an integrated platform for supporting equipment.
Truss assemblies — utilizing attachment points to the subfloor to support a truss network on which the floor panels rest. The truss has high lateral strength and transfers lateral loads to the subfloor with less strain than possible with a vertical pedestal assembly.
A telecommunications facility may contain continuous lineups of equipment cabinets. The most densely populated installation configuration would consist of rows of continuous 2-foot-wide equipment cabinets with aisles that separate 2-foot-wide adjacent rows. This lineup configuration is considered to be the most densely populated in terms of square foot area and, therefore, the largest floor load anticipated for a raised floor system. Considering prorated aisle space, a single equipment cabinet will then occupy an 8-square foot (0.74-m2) floor area (4 square feet for the cabinet and 4 square feet of aisle).

The data center can be located in remote locations, and is subject to physical and electrical stresses from sources such as fires and from electrical faults.

The environment drives the installation methods for raised floors, including site preparation, cable and cable racking, bonding and grounding, and fire resistance. The actual installation should be in accordance with the customer’s practice.

Rubber floor care & and cleaning

Do not use steel wool or abrasive scouring pads on rubber flooring.
Never clean rubber flooring with cleaning products that contain turpentine or acetone as they can permanently damage the floor surface.
Remove gum by first freezing it, then scraping it up with a wooden/plastic spatula.
Dirt spots can be cleaned by spraying a mild solution onto the area and then wiping them with a clean dry cloth.
Avoid using colored cleaning pads as they could stain flooring.
Avoid using scrubbers or buffing machines that have a speed above 350 revolutions per minute (rpm).
Remove dirt and maintain a cleaner rubber surface by routinely sweeping, wet mopping and/or vacuuming floors.
Give your rubber floors a glossy finish by applying a rubber floor conditioner. You can also attain a glossy finish by applying a rubber floor spray buff with a 350+ rpm buffing machine. Note: Spray buffing can only be done on certain rubber floor types.
Scrub heavily soiled rubber floor treads with a hand brush, stripper and water solution.
A satin finish look can be achieved by dry buffing rubber floors with a white cleaning pad.
Avoid using cleaning products that contain acidic solvents as they could cause rubber floors to deteriorate.

The Human Body Electrostatic Effect

As assessed by science, human body is charged. It is quite common in dry conditions that people feel electric shock when they shaking hands. It turns out that it is the result of human body electrostatic effect. Scientific experiments have confirmed that huamn body has electrostatic pressure from tens to hundreds of volts. When they take off shirts or thrust against the ground, the pressure will become higher. Statie electricity on human body is influenced by the surrounding environment, dress, behavior and personal reasons. The pressure is often higher when the air is dryer, when people wear synthetic fiber synthetic leather rather than cotton goods or using woollen blanket, chemical fibre carpet. Even different people, their electrostatic pressure is quite different from each other. (It is concered with different resistance of human body.)

What is the bad influence of human body electrostatic effect to people's life and work? There are two main parts：
1. Adsorption capacity. It is easy for electrostatic pressure to adsorb dust in the air or ground, polluting clothing and harming people's health.
2. Sparking discharge. Human body electrostatic pressure plays a role as detonating fuse in inflammable and explosive places. Enclosed environment with air conditioning, carpet or plastic wall and the polymer products that people use are often the direct cause of fire and explosion. As a result, people have paied great attention to the safety protection of human body electrostatic pressure and a lot of countries have amde concerned laws, including China.
In order to reduce the human body electrostatic accumulation, cotton goods should be our first choise. Electronic components production workers shouls wear grounding wrist strap to eliminate static.

Electrostatic Control in Cleanrooms

There are three steps in controling the static.
1. Reducing the static is the first step. The best measures are:
①Using similar equipments to reduce electrostatic charges during the process of friction.
②Trying to use static conductive or static dissipative materials to reduce the accumulation of static.
③Trying to choose the production procedure that are less friction.
2. Bleeding or neutralization is the second one. The most common measures in microelectronic production are earth connection, using static conductive or static dissipative material, ion eliminator, etc.
①Earth connection cleanroom should be an independent system. So that static of the metal cases of all equipments, metal pedestals and antistatic equipments could be bleeded into the earth effectively. Staff could use wrist strap or antistatic shoes to bleed static.
②There are a few insulated conductor or insulation materials in ion eliminator, components, PCB, production lines or work stations. Under some circumstances, ion eliminator is only used to eliminate static in some parts. Aeroionization is more used to neutralize the statice on insulation materials and isolated conductors.
③Static conductive or static dissipative materials are also very good electrostatic discharge materials which are safer than metal materials. It is widely used in antistatic equipments such as floors, walls, work stations, turnover containers, tweezers and brushes.
3. Anti-ESD is the last step. In order to prevent ESD in the electrostatic sensitive components, one way is to provide suitable earth connection to eliminate the static, the other way is to use appropriate packaging and material to deal with the electrostatic sensitive components. They can prevent electric charge invading in the product and reduce the movement of product in the package.
